After you clean a roof asphalt or cedar
do any of you have experience installing zinc strips to prevent the moss and other growth from coming back? Does it work?

Can you use normal flashing or does it have to be a special product?

Thanks

Zinc strips are effective on roofs. The downfal to them is that if the roof has a long span from the ridge to gutter one strip near the ridge is not enough to create enough zinc oxide run off down the entire roof. To be effective they would need to be installed about every 10 feet. This is unsightly. On cedar they also do nothing to protect the wood from the sun and moisture. Most good preservative treatments have zinc oxide in them or copper napthate which will prevent fungus. I would only use them on asphalt roofs. Hope this helps.
