Question 'O The Day - "Typical Deck Pricing"

Expert

New Member
Let's kick around some pricing issues.(Yes, this could be in the marketing area, I suppose.)Your 'typical' deck bid:
- Whatis your routine?
- What are the "red flag" concerns that you look for?
- Do you just eyeball the job? Measure? Count spindles?
- Surcharge for elevated decks?
- How do you deal with unknown existing stains?
- What other cost factors do you consider important?
OK, professionals, let's here your views !!

hey dave,

I use a wheel measure to get sq footage of deck and linear feet of rail X height for total sq footage. I average 80 cents to a dollar per sqr. clean and seal. I also quesstimate for second floor, screened in porchs lattice etc. sometimes throw them In for free as a closer or charge extra if they look like a pain. I Think I'm on the low end of the price scale but I seem to get only half the jobs I bid.
Hope this helps,
Adrian

Same story as above, rates in my area are 1.50 to 5.00 per sq foot.

EXAMPLE

10x10 might be 450.00 clean and seal/stain

30x30 might be 1200.00 clean and seal/stain

Depends on your market, the actual job, what your worth and what your sales presentation has to offer. Always back up what you say. Be professional and do a better than expected job. Learn what you do well, it will show when you educate your customers. If your good, they will wait for you and money is not the issue, with in reason of course.
