figuring sq / ft

How many of you actually count each individual spindle? measure a step and multiply by how many ? or do you figure your square footage and have that figure to include steps, spindles, etc. ? Does your estimate include your cost for sealers, cleaners, etc., or is the cost of this items in addition to your estimate for the square footage ?

I don't count spindles anymore...you can pretty much
know if there are extra spindles or not.Around the area I work, there are 20 spindles per 10 linear feet.If they are closer together I just add more. When I measure up spindles I get the linear ft and multply by 3.5 I figured this out before and it came very close to that.when I measure up lattice I find the median point and measure the linear feet and multiply.I am very busy so I don't have time to get an exact measurement. It usually comes out about right.
