Heavy Mold

I had a deck last year, with heavy mold on it, very similar to what you see in the picture. After it was washed, it still had a green tint to it.......could even scrape it with your fingernail.

Anyone have experience with this? What would have done it right? Sodium Hydroxide? Any thoughts?

Heck, thats what most of my decks look like that i get calls on. High humidity here year round. When i have the green tint, i wash a quick second washing with a bleach water mixture, basically spray on, rinse off. And it usually doesn't look like it is doing anything, but when it dries, its almost always gone. I always clean with a sodium hydroxide mixture, but it still leaves the green tint, but when i spray the bleach on, rinse it off, the greens gone when the deck dries.

If i am going to stain the deck, i always put on a heavy mixture of bleach and water, to bleach the wood, then neutralize. Brightens the wood and easy to seal.
