Power Inverter Vrs. Generator

I have a small Mobile Carwash business, and up till now I have been using the "On-Site" electric hook-ups, but it is becomming VERY tedious.

For one thing, although I try my best to be careful, I always worry about someone tripping over the cord, which sometimes stretches for over 100 ft. Also...Since some of the locations do not have
outside plug-in access I sometimes use a light-bulb screw-in adapter that has the plug-in. This works, but I'm not sure how safe this is ?

I only wash maybe 5 cars per day, and I basically only need electric power for 5-10 minute intervals to run the vacume cleaner which is 120 Vlts. Its a very small
(2 gallon) unit, as the cars I wash are always already clean. (Maintenence is E-2-Wks)

I would like to do without a generator, if possible, and was wondering if I could go with a Power Inverter that plugs into my 12 Vlt. ?

Would this work for me, as I only need approx. 15-20 minutes of electric power per day, and would I be better off leaving my truck running (in "Park" of coarse <g> ) while operating the vacume, (for only the 5 min. or s it takes to vacue)so as to not draw so much power from my battery, or would I best be served with a extra "Auxilery" (Marine) battery as a back-up power soarce ?

I dont know if I am making any sense at all, but hopefully you get an idea of what I am trying to accomplish and can tell me if I risk blowing up my vehicle in the proccess before I decide to do anything one way or the other LOL !!!

Thanks in advance.

Power inverters are okay for short periods. Make sure you get a large one. They burn out easy if the size is too small. Do not get the kind that hooks up to your cigarette lighter! It will burn up your wiring.

For one thing those 12v vacuum cleaners aren't worth a @#$. They are for the home owner and they suck poorly. Not a good choice for commercial cleaning.
