Glowing Muffler Pipe

Hey Wiz,

I was cleaning tonight and my machine ran fine. How ever I noticed that the pipe that runs along the side of the engine to the muffler was just about red hot.

What could this be? I have a Elite. The pipe runs between the engine and the panel that separates the engine from the heater coil area, to the little muffler on the left. It was mostly red hot closer to the muffler but the muffler was not. Also when I shut down the machine and then released the pressure from the gun, it back fired. It has back fire on and off since I got the machine, while shutting down and releasing the pressure. My main concern is the red hot pipe.

Those pipes always get hot. Just don't let nothing touch it. Those engines pop when they are hot. You can cool the engine if you idle it down for a few min and cut most of the popping out. Just never do that with the burner on, it will burn out the transformer.
