oil sending sensor

We have 16hp vanguard Electric Start,133hrs,
last night we went to start machine and after 3 trys it started, blow a little smoke as always when cold, was runing anti-freeze out took about 30 seconds to 1 min and then shut machine off, to hook-up wand it turned over twice but wouldnt start anymore after that could here both times the starter turning over clinking sound, so tried to pull start acts like its locked - up ck oil level no oil,just had it serviced 2-3 wk ago,has oil sending sensor how does this work? and did it? is it just shear pin? or did it fail to work is our question ????

Sure sorry to hear that. I assume it has the the standard pressure type switch located on the oil filter housing. They are a normally closed switch and require pressure to open the circuit. You can test it with a ohm meter to see if it is open or closed by touching the body of the switch with one lead and touching the switch plug with the other lead. Not sure how your machine is wired but most of the time the wire from the switch goes to the kill wire post that is located on the right hand side of the engine. Check and be sure wire was hooked up: They fall off all the time. Is your engine leaking oil? Briggs has had a bad time with o-rings failing on the crankcase cover. Normally when it fails oil leaks from everywhere and the oil filter is usually covered. If you need anything else just post us.

I think your right,our supplier just gave us a new one til b-s could ck this out! had all but forgot about this post sorry, still waiting to hear what happen.
