What would be the going rate for stripping and waxing of floors. Last time I checked it was .15 to .18 cents a square foot. To Low to High? Jaime

Re: Floor Strip & Wax Charges

There appears to be a range of charges from 17 cents to 20 cents per square foot for floor strip & wax. Charge the customer for all supplies, the stripper, the pads, the wax, etc. If you do not want to charge separately for supplies then add 2-3 cents per square foot to your charge.

A recent survey by Cleaning and Maintenance magazine said the average charge to strip and refinish a floor by their subscribers was 24 cents per foot. Keep in mind, their subscribers tend to be large services making over $1 million per year and some are union services that do charge more. Also, this rate was for their “largest customers.â€￾

Buy good wax even if it cost a little more. Inexpensive wax is definitely “dear in the end.â€￾ It won’t look as nice, it will take more time and your customer will not be happy. Good wax will save you time, look so much better, stay nice longer, be able to buff up better and of course your customer will be so much happier. Less expensive wax may need two or more coats before it starts to shine and still will not have the luster and protection of the better products.

This is a great area to find a reliable, janitorial supply house where you can ask questions and get good, honest answers. Usually they will tell you and recommend products that will do the job to meet your needs.
