Digital Camera

Who has one and what do you think? I have a DC4800 3.1 Megapixel, 3x optical zoom and 2x digital zoom. I think it takes great pictures and could be a great asset for taking work pictures.

However I don't feel for the 800 dollar price tag it is worth it. I think I am going to try a few others. Don't get me wrong, the quality of the pictures are great. Just seems like they should be better for the price.

What do you have and what do you think? Here is a shot of part of my desk. I had to alter the photo a bit with a photo editing program to get it to look this good.

Dan,

I have a Sony Mavica FD-88 digital cam. It takes pictures and creates MPEG movie files. It stores the pics on floppy disks........so, you are only limited to how many disks you can carry!

I love the camera.....and it goes with me everywhere. I think the picture quality is pretty good.......not sure how it compares to the pic you posted. It is 1.3 megapixels, 8x optical zoom, and 16x digital zoom.

All of the pics I have posted on the board in the past were taken with this camera, including the one in the member pic area.

Good luck with your decision!

Hey Mike,

Considering you have a 1.3 would you say the picture I posted is better at 3.1. Obviously it should be. Just wondering what you think since you have had your camera a while. I just am trying to justify the price compared to the quality.

Dan I bought a Kodak DC210 plus zoom camera last year for around $300.00 to use mainly for my landscaping business. Although it doesn't have the megapixels your camera has I am very pleased with it.I purchased a digital imaging program to use in conjuntion with the camera and can honestly say that i sold a fairly sizable planting job without saying a single word.I mearly showed the customer what their property could look like.Ive sold several planting jobs by this method.Out of curiosity I took a picture of a fence that obviously hasn't had any attention given to it in quite some time and put it through my digital imaging program to see if I could " give it color".After about an hour of trial and error I was able to "create" a before and after picture.I was really impressed. This was done about the time it was getting too cold to do any sealing so I haven't had the opportunity to try it on a potential customer yet but will .I can see all sorts of potentials with this set-up.I'll keep you informed on how it works out.

Dan,

I'm not sure that level of quality is necessary for our use.........I could see if you planned to print alot of pics, etc...........but, I am happy with what I have.

Keep shopping around, you'll find something appropriate for you. That camera will be $400 in 8 or 9 months probably, with the way technology changes.....

Call me old fashioned if you want to but I am not into those things.

have a minolta 35mm, takes great pictures so why spend big $$$ on another camera?

I suppose if I wanted one bad enough I would buy one but just cannot justify the cost.

Anyone want to donate their digi cam for a just cause, ME

The digital camera in my opinion is the way to go, because of the versatility. Image quality is important because some of the pictures I will use in a full color brochure. You don't need much for the Internet. But do need more for good prints. I would never just print them out on an inkjet printer. The time it takes and the ink used, along with the printer problems. I think it’s better to take them to a real camera store like Wolf or Ritz and have them printed on real photo paper. I am not talking about that machine at Walgreens either.

I like the fact that you can take picture at will and get immediate results on the computer. Then use them for the Internet, brochures and pitch books along with sharing them with family. What type of software are you guys using? Hey Mike the picture of the power washer you posted at 1.3 looks as good as my 3.1. Not to happy about that. I can get a 2.1 for have of what I paid for the 3.1.

Dan,

I bet if we printed them out you'd see the difference..........there has to be a difference somewhere!

I use MGI PhotoSuite Platinum Edition.......but I just got it and have not had time to master it yet...

Mike

P.S. Jon.........a digital camera is exceptional for taking before and after shots.......because you can see the before picture so you know how to line it up. That way, both pics are taken almost exactly the same. My before and after shots look much better now.........no more guessing games.

I plan to go with Mikes model.
I have had my eyes on it for a while. It is currently around $500 at my local Wal-Mart. I am waited for the majic number Mike gave $400. Why do I need a digital cam? I hate waiting for the film to be developed. Sometimes I need the image, not neccessarily a picture. I know sometime in the future I will have a problem with my equipment, or run into a stain I have never dealt with before. The digital camera will give me the ability to send an image of the equipment problem or part to the wiz!. Also, I could post the image of the stain the same day to get you guy's imput, all at no cost and delay in film developing. If it's a family shot I want a picture of, I just drop the image off on disk and get a picture made. Makes good sense to me to have one. I hope to make a purchase soon. Might have to spring for the $500 price tag if they don't drop soon. I think the megapixels benefit you on large images. For instance, I don't think Mike and Dan will notice a difference in their images untill the enlarge them. I think the pixels are like lines of resolution or something, not really sure though. For my purposes, I will go with Mikes Cam. I like the floppy disk compatability.

Gad guys,

Why did y'all not bring this subject up about a year ago!!!

I honestly did not even look into digital camera's as I thought all of them were extremely expensive, like $700+.

Now that I have this great 35mm for around um, ah never mind you will just say you could have bought one for the same price, maybe not the best but a fair one.

Wonder if I can trade it in?? So if I was to look for one what would you say might be the best 3 for around the price Glenn is willing to pay,$400?

Guess I need to start researching digital cams now. Progress, is there no end to it?

Who wants to be the first to own the all in one autoclean pressure washing system, all you do is press the start button and program the job into the brain and hit go, then sit back and read a book as it does the work!!!!!!!

Anyone have one for sale, cheap?

Just got an HP 315. 2.1mp 2.5x digital zoom

Average camera but great price, just under 300 bucks. Plus it has the compactflash memory card that is the same that my hp pocketpc uses, so it is interchangeable and i can stick the memory card into the pocketpc, download the pictures, then have the memory card to take more, when out on the job.

Dan, took a pic of my desk, well its the bosses desk, but she gave me permission, and didn't edit it, but did take and resize it to be comparable to the one you took, so you can see the difference between your high dollar cam and my mediocre camera.

Lisa probably won't let me get the chair since I am on welfare these days. But I can con her into the desk setup. The Lady's love furniture.

Not to change the subject but,
Craig, how do you like bizland. Is the website hosting really free? Do they have site building software you can download? I have been working with a 3 month free trial offer from quickbooks but don't really like it. Any suggestions?

Glenn,

Yeah its free as long you dont mind the banners. I think it's 25mb free space and all that jazz. If you dont like the banners you can take them off with the 15 bucks a month upgrade which includes like 65mb space and all the emails and stuff you need. To answer your question, yeah, i like it, and suits the purpose. They have web building software onsite and it works ok, but i got frontpage 2000 which did a lot better job, especially since i dont have a clue what i am doing. Email me and i have something for you if interested.

I think you should just spend the money and get a site without ads on it........nothing annoys me more then those stupid windows that pop up in your face.....I don't think it looks professional on a business' web site. In my opinion, its worth the money.

I second Mike's opinion, I tend to click out of web sites that have annoying banners.

When I get to the point I want a web site it won't have banners.

To me they are like those autoanswer phones when you call some company, I expect to hear a "live" person, not some dumb recording which in most cases talks to fast for my hearing to understand.

Now back to the funiture guys

Just for a comparison. This picture was taken with a disposable Kodak. Had them developed and put on CD and also received photo copies.

It sure is not as sharp as the ones that the other fellows have shared!! Cost for the camera and developing (24 exp) was about $30.

Oh, by the way the picture (if it uploaded) is our Genset being set back in our truck. Our new tank is already inside. We did a major rebuild of our main unit last fall.
