Call me nosey, but i just wonder who these guests are that visit the board so much. Everytime i log in here, it shows as many or more guests than there are members browsing the boards.

Why are they doing such injustice to the profession?

Why are they doing such injustice to Dan Flynn?

Why are they doing such injustice to themselves?

Why won't they go thru the 2 minute process of joining the site so they can join the discussions. I would much rather help someone that is upfront and honest than someone sneaking around. I call that freeloading. Take, take, take, and give back nothing in return. What's up with that.

I don't know if all has seen my suggestion of helping Dan out on the board with some donations in another topic. I know we are getting heavy. And yes, i sent today in the mail, a check to Dan because i feel it is only right. But to not even sign up and just sneak around, just isn't right.

Mike, i know this should be in the suggestions category, but i am afraid it won't be seen there by all.

I am only asking that everyone stand up and be counted, or at least sign up.

There, I feel better.

Craig,

I don't know what's worse......having them lurk and not post.........or join up and not post. If they joined just for the sake of joining, it would unjustly inflate the membership numbers. Go look under the Members link sometime at the top of the page. Take a look at how many people have very few posts. Also, for fun, sort it by the "top 40 posters".

I remember when I first started coming to boards a couple years ago.......I did an awful lot of reading.......and didnt post a single word. I then joined the PWNA......and thru that association and the kind folks on the boards, I learned an awful lot. I always felt like if I posted, it would be like the "blind leading the blind". That is probably how most of those guests feel.......but, they will have their turn to give back eventually......if they decide to make a go of pressure washing. Now, I speak my mind on just about anything.......perhaps too often..........quite a contrast to those early days!

I know, i was the same way. But i realized, just as they are doing, i was coming to the boards to learn. I knew i had nothing to offer, but i was desperate to learn. If they joined, and asked questions, then they would learn at an incredible pace, more than just lurking.

By the way Mike, did you get that machine thawed out yet?

Hi Graig,

The opening page of this site has shown me as a "Guest" for quite some time. Was about the same time that my password was no longer automatic when I logged in a response.

Sorry, guess I should have said something sooner! I expect that there is probably others that have registered as a member that the site shows as a "Guest".

I wish people would join and then get involved. But people are people and act and view things at different paces. I also wish everyone would take advantage of the picture under their name option. E-mail or send me a picture and we can handle the rest.

Dave are you still having trouble with your username and password not showing up automatically? That should not happen. Also when you view the who's online section you do not see yourselves. You are counted as a number and can see others as guests or members. Others who view will see you but not themselves as well.

How many of you are the same way?going to other bbs and reading but not answering no post?

I go to a few other bbs that has something to do with cleaning and if I know or can help I do post but alot of times I just read because the Q'tion is already answered.I don't think its injust for anybody to go to any bbs to learn nomatter if they are in the pw bussiness or not. Some guest are smart enough to keep thier mouth shut as to tell the world on now to get their bussiness, alot of them think that way.

Is it injust to learn, thats why I bought my pc is to learn more on power washing and knowledege on cheicemls and anything else I can get my hands on.If any bbs thinks its injust for anyone to come to their bbs and not post all they have to do is block all guest but they'll find what their looking for elsewhere just as some of will do.I go to the trucknet bbs but do not post but I learn something that I can tell the truck drivers I wash for,as to something they didn't know. When you look at the percentage of poeple posting on any bbs you will see just a hand full thats willing to help. Will I'll get off the box now before I fall off.

howdy folks.

you got my feathers a little ruffled.
this is my first post!!
I just like to read posts and soak it all in until I do have a question or remark. But I guess y'all are right... I could learn more by asking.
I always told my employees that the dumbest question is the one that is not asked.
Plus my computer sucks. The new gateway just got delivered today. You will hear more from me.
Who will be in Florida for PWNA show? See you there.

Purepower,

Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers, my point was to get people to do just as you have done. Introduce themselves. Now, we all have a new friend, and colleague, and you just picked up a bunch of them. Again, i wasn't necessarily badgering the group of guests, just wanting them to participate.

If they decide not to, fine, i just feel that the guests, newbies, for whatever reason they wish to stay annonomous, could learn more when they come out of the shadows, and don't forget, teach us all something as well.

Dave's second post on the subject was excellent, and very imformative. Different side of the spectrum, great points. His 3rd post either came out wrong or was a little rude, just like my original. My bvd's dont get in a wad, unless the wife hasn't washed in a while and i have turned them inside out and back for a while. Still, the point is out there, and you are now a member of the pw family.

We have a great bunch of professionals here that all have something to offer, and as it grows, it will only get better with the moderators keeping an eye on things. And i do wish everyone would have a brainstorm and post their ideas/tips/suggestions, that's what Dan built this place for.

Here comes Jon,

Don't think I saw what could be the reason a lot of "guest" are just that, some are your local competitors getting all the information from you they can in hopes that they might take some of your accounts.

Another thing is did any of you stop to think that some of the members might sign on as a guest also just to be able to see, read and not be seen?

I have nothing against those members that do not post but sure it would be great if they did, I am sure everyone has something to say and they should say it.

Ok so they might think, I want to post this but the others might say what a jerk, dumb post, idiot etc. I don't see things that way, I remember when I was researching this business I asked tons of questions on other boards, (this board was not up then).

I will never ever know it all nor do I consider myself the best, but if I can offer something back for what I gain from the rest of you I feel good about that.

Ok,Fellas; here's my thoughts; I'm a painting contractor by choice, a power washer by necessity. I found out "several years ago" that to do my profession right, I needed to learn about prepping. And guess what? I found that you just don't pickup a pressure cleaner and start blasting. There's alot to it in technique, AND USE OF RIGHT CHEMICALS FOR THE JOB!
So I peek in here and at other boards about twice aday to LEARN.I love the commentary, it makes me think and invision, and also keeps me learning. So if I don't contribute much, SORRY! But you folks are TEACHING ME! I appreciate it and respect it.

MAKE SENSE??

Glenn,
On the other hand... I am a power washer by choice and a painter by necessity. It generates extra income through this cold season.
I don't apply anything in subzero temps. If it can be done, I would surely be interested too.
The guys at Sherwin Williams called me crazy for even asking that question.

Craig,
No offense taken, but I do agree that if every "guest" or "member" would post more often, we could probably all learn alot more. After all, once you stop trying to learn, you will fail...Once you do not share knowledge, you are no longer wise.
I have read these posts for a rather long time and you guys have shared an awful lot of info that has made me say..HMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm... why didn't I think of that. This BBS is my best learning tool that I have. Other guys in my market in Pittsburgh aren't too groovy about sharing the knowledge. Thanks to all.

To Glenn:
The key to a successful paint job in cold weather is "50 degrees farenheit". Never paint below that, or after 2:00pm on a 50 degree day. If you must, work with the sun(if you have it!). And to add to that: "A sucessful painter always has(heated)interior work when the thermometer drops".
I bet you knew that all along!!

Ok I'll introduce myself. My name is Tom Zahlman and I live in Illnois. I started my powerwashing business last April with one decent size truck fleet. Still have the same truck fleet and nothing else, but decided to change the business name and an all new approach in 2001. The past months have basicaly been an experiment to see if it would work and now want it more than ever. I guess I'm one of those that have been "lurking" But am very serious about making this work and quitting my fulltime job. THIS BOARD IS GREAT! as well as otherones I've visited and couldn't do it without their help, THANKS. Tom Zahlman

Tom,

Thanks for introducing yourself and welcome to "our little world."

I do some fleet washing, and I am more than willing to help in any way i can, although, Mr. Scott Stone, Bigboy, and others are our specialists in this aspect of pressure washing, they can answer many more questions than I and are incredibly knowledgeable in this field. I am still walking the fence trying to figure out what i want to be when i grow up (what i want to specialize in). These guys have made that decision long ago and are the creme of the crop. Feel free to ask us/them any question you got, and if it is answerable, we'll find it. Just understand that no company can give out their company secrets, but general knowledge is enormously available.

Welcome,

Craig
