<FONT COLOR="e87400">Hrmmm this has taken an evil twist. My original post was addressed to my home and to my personal preference. I HATE TELEMARKETERS. Reason.. Well for ages I have received many calls throughout the day and I am a day sleeper, so it really sucks. I have taken as many as 15 TM calls 1 one day, I've had calls on Sunday at 8:30pm. They've driven me crazy & no I don't give out my number easily, & yes I do check the box where it says "Do Not Sell".
Where do they come from,, for me it's mostly financial. I have a huge pile dept,, Home mortgage, vehicles, equipment, creditcards as do most. These are some of the primary compilations of list. Then there are the local calls to my home from Sears, Pesticide companies, siding companies etc,, these ppl DO just PU the phone book and start calling, or may they have one of those nice CD ROMs with the reverse directory. In any event, I have been for a while telling them to put me on their "Do Not Call" list & it's been helping.
With the Web-site that I had listed above I learned that I can "make" them send me a copy of their Do Not Call list policies so I have been. I also list who the companies are so that if they call me again I can pursue legal recourse to receive $500 from them. I'd love to get an extra $500 for them calling, that'd be a Tele-marketer worth listening too!
As far as Business Telemarketing,, well yes it's a gray area, I do not do mass telemarketing, i do Customer Contact on the Phone (keep in mind I only do Commercial work). Call me crazy but I really do believe that there is a difference. When I call a customer I make damn sure that I do not present myself in a pushy manner. Often I think the customer feels like they had called me, I do not apply pressure of any sorts to the phoned prospects. That comes later, NEVER on a first meeting Here's how I define the 2
Tele-Marketing is (I feel) a Totally canned generic sales pitch, geared toward "High Pressure" sales. Blowing though scripted presentation never taking a breath or allowing to other end of the line to get in his or her 2 cents worth. This procedure is a method used to blast through the week consumers.
Customer Contact is a sales uncanned (No script, no canned auto responses) pitch geared toward a specific customer with information gathered in advance about the customer s property used to produce a meeting, appointment, or proposal to sell.
I know some will disagree and say "Well you are just saying that to justify what you do" well you may be right but …… I have never had a customer hang up on me or become negative, in fact I think that every company I have every called I was able to get the quote through. Whether it was though obtaining an address from the customer to mail it to or through a member of the firm saying "send it on" or whatever. I have always had positive contact with most all the customers that I have called.
