Problem with electric machine

I have an electric pressure washer that keeps tripping breakers. It does not trip the GFI on the cord. It does not trip the breaker if the gun is held open when turning the machine on. It appears to be the initial surge that causes the trip. Any help out there?

It could be that you have a 20 amp machine on a 20 amp breaker.
Breakers do get old and after a while they will trip at 19.5 amps or less.

When you trigger the gun the machine has a brief surge that will draw over 20 amps (number used for illustration purposes). A weak breaker will trip.

The GFI is a different type of breaker. In the presence of a direct ground it breaks the circuit to prevent electrocution.

Get the breaker tested or replaced. Also test the amp draw of the machine under load, sometimes a motor will be a wee bit sticky to start. This should clear your problem.

Hope this helps? Cheers.

You may have to put a larger tip on it or turn the pressure down a tad on the unloader valve.
It may be spiking too high causing the over-current.

Yes we did. It turned out to be the unloaders. We have been cleaning for years and never had one og on us but two went at the same time. All information is good. Thanks for the input. Appreciate it.
