getting business

What was the best marketing tool to get new business? I am just starting out washing windows.

Washed windows in the past. I currently am a carpet cleaner.
I will start marketing to my customer base.

What works best for getting that new client?

face to face knock on doors
look in the newspaper for new store openings,shopping centers being built,one owner with multi stores,wear your name in big print on your shirt[back and front]. None of the window guy's do that here, that's stupid. A lot of the time you can look more professional then there car, that's for shur. The guy's around here look like pot heads and drive the crappiest cars.
Ripped jeans,cut up tee shirts,just sloppy looking all the time.

I would use direct mail, works great. Stay away from store fronts unless you like being broke. Have you seen those guys? Residential is it. Make a mailer, advertise carpets on one side and windows on the other, then send them out.
