Planning on starting my own power washing business

Power Wash Me

Hello I’m David from Brampton, Ontario, Canada

I’m 20 years old and I think this is a perfect time for a young guy like me who strives for perfection and a quality job for what the customer pays for. When I register a business and get a loan from the government to help me pay for the equipment.

I’m planning on starting my own power washing business (part-time for now, on my afternoons and weekends) and I would like to know what type of system would be one of the best. The dream unit that I would like for now is one that has a small trailer and about 4000 psi and 4 gpm, hot water system. By the way it can’t be too big so that my car Ford Escort Gt 1.8 can pull it, I’m planning on installing a turbo on my car for the extra power. (Please give me some suggestions and tips) I’m thinking of power washing sidewalks, walls, garbage rooms, driveways and what ever comes up. I worked for a company as a painter for apartments and parking garages so I now have some good connections with the managers of buildings and the big wigs that own the building so I think this would be a good opportunity for me to hang onto. It would be really helpful if you can give me a detailed list of supplies and suppliers to buy all of this (preferably in or close to Canada).

I know that I’m asking a lot as a newb. What would be a recommended brand.

I.e.; - 30†surface cleaner
- 24’ extended wand

Thank you in advance
David

Hey David,

Skip the 4,000 PSI you don't need it. 3,000psi is fine for concrete and you can lower your pressure with larger tips everything else. What's going to matter the most is hot water and water volume. Try finding a unit with 5gpm, 4 will work but it's really the minimum you can use and stay competitive. Give me a call if you have any questions, I would be happy to help you out. You might also want to contact Paul Horsley the PWNA president, (www.pwna.org) he's in Canada also.

Sweet lol Thanks for your tips Henry Bockman. Can you explain why you don’t recommend a 4000-psi unit, is it because I'm going to cause more harm then good with excessive power? What type of job would need a 4000-psi unit? Thanks for mentioning Paul Horsley that lives in Canada. I also just bought the pdf file “Power Washing for high Profitsâ€￾ so far from what I have read, it’s been really helpful explaining business tactics.

For regular cleaning 3,000 PSI is plenty, just get some good chemicals and heat, that's all you will need. You will actually clean faster with a 3,000 PSI and 5gpm unit than with the one you mentioned.

Our First Power Washer

We are about to purchase our first power washer. I have noticed that you say that heated water is important. Why is this so? We live in an area that is rarely below 50-55 degrees and is often 100+ in the summer (Farenheit). Do we still need a heated unit?

Thank you.

Hot water is always better for cleaning. Common sense. GPM's are what actually gets the work done-not psi.
David, you'd be better off trying to rig that washer to pull your Escort! You need a bigger vehicle!

Hold the phone. The Canadian GOVERNMENT will give you a loan for power washing equipment??? And, you get free health insurance too, right? The USA is having problems with illegals... would you mind some Americans coming over your border???? Our government isn't giving us much of anything lately.
