20 Below On The Roof

There is one thing that bothers me about how I perform my work. Other than this one item, I sleep well knowing I do a good job. When its sub-zero outside, and the roof is covered with snow and ice, I let the fan wait for a better day. Its not a matter of comfort, but safety. I would prefer not to slide off a roof and break my neck ! How do the rest of you folks of the North handle this ? {Besides hiring your mother in-law to do it, already tried

I agree with Dave, its got to get done no matter what, my suggestion would be includes a combination of things: 1st- Like Gremlin said bundle up and keep warm, if you are freezing cold it will immediatly dampen you motivation to do a good job, 2nd- Use a hot water unit and melt yourself a walkway, it will re-freeze but will stay melted long enough to take a step. and 3rd (most importantly) use a safty harness and tie yourself off to something. With those 3 things you can go home every night know you did your best!

Winter cleaning of fans

During the winter months after powerwashing the fans on the roof will ice build up in the exhaust fans?

Policy for us in the winter.

After cleaning system the customer will be notified to leave the fan on to dry out the system overnight until they get the heat from the cooking up the exhaust.

Fans with water in the bowls will freeze the blades and when they turn the fans on the next day the will either smoke a belt or bend the blades or even worse damage the shear pin, shaft, motor

Always make sure that the grease drip tubes are cleaned out so the bowl will drain
