Calf Barns

Anyone familiar with washing calf barns? There is a several around here and I am trying to get into that. I have been trying for two years to get into that. I have talked with a few guys in the barns and they tell me after each barn is emptied they have to be washed out. They needed to be washed out every 18 weeks. There are 6 barns so I need to wash one every 3 weeks year round. The big reason I am interested in this is because it is year round work. The guy that does it now uses cold water. The guy who owns the barn says I should have at least a 8 gpm machine. I am just looking for any info on the pros and cons to this. I know that is a very dirty stinky job.

I'm actually surprised that you found a Dairy/Farm that is willing to pay for this service. Down here in Texas they don't want to spend the money.

Anyway I used to work on a dairy. This job would require a machine with a high gpm because that head pressure alone won't get it because the crap will stack up quick as you move along. And yeah it can get pretty nasty. Most places wash all of the crap out in to the soup yard and push it somwhere with a bobcat. You donot want to be responsible for the cleanup of the soup yard after you are done it will get deep and at this point you will have gone past your duties pressure washing.

We used to do this with a water truck and a low psi pump that put out like 12-15 gpm.

I do not think I would jump on washing feeder lots with 8gpm rig,especially with high pressure.I agree with Austin plus with high psi I hope you like the taste of calf chit b/c ya'll have to eat alot of it with the blowback from the psi.This post made me spit b/c I could almost taste it myself,spit spit spit even when washing out cattle trailers under high psi,spit spit spit.

I am not putting words in your mouth. You just have to be more clear on what you tell people. I will tell you what does get annoying is when you called me an idiot on a thread and said I wash washing trucks with kerosene and mentioned me by name. I never washed trucks and have no clue to why you would say that was me. I would be interested in you explaining why you said what you did. I thought after we talked on the phone everything was pretty cool between us but I can see you get annoyed with me saying you operated out of Hudsonville. Is it that big of a deal? If that annoys you then you are just way too sensitive. Did I flip out over you calling me an idiot? No, and what for? That wasn't even me you were talking about because I don't wash trucks. I figured that at least you could do is apologize for saying something false about me. At least I wasn't saying you were an idiot working out of Hudsonville. That is what you wrote and I think anyone would agree that if someone writes that in a thread you assume they were operating out of Hudsonville. You said your old business is still there in Hudsonville. What am I supposed to think?

I am not trying to start a fight or anything I was just bothered when he said I was annoying him. I never meant to annoy anyone. I was just basing info that I had gotten from him. I never got all upset over him calling me an idiot for something or someone that wasn't even me. After I talked to him on the phone I thought he was a pretty cool guy. I had no idea I annoyed him this much. Like I said I don't want to start anything, I just want to give and get advise from here just like anyone esle and maybe pick up a friend or two on the way.
