What's a man to do when: You market to a company and they say, "Yes, we pay $3.05/$3.85 per van/walk-in(15/15) three times/wk., when can you start?

On the PLUS side, the guy who has the contract now isn't showing up (actually he contracts services thru other contractors).

Has ANYONE done business with this extremely dollar conscious company, and if so were you able to get better than $10/veh?

Is there a tact that works better than another in convincing them of the benefits they receive (your guys not having to do it, p/w is faster and better than hand wash, hot water is more efficient, etc.)

Thanks for your help.

Mark,

Some people (or companies) just dont get it.......and never will! On the plus side........how dirty can a truck be if you're washing it every other day?? Good luck with your presentation.

Mark,

I currantly Wash trucks for them and I am quite sure they will never pay over 10.00 per unit unless it is in a small town with a small fleet ( fifteen or less units). These trucks can get nasty in the winter months but most of the time you can breeze tru them rather quickly. They require you to reclaim your water but everyone will be requiring this sooner or later.
I can wash 20 of there trucks pulling each one out on my mat start to finish it takes three hours. The thing I like best is I wash twice a week every week all year. I also have heard of the three dollar wash job and you certanilly do get what you pay for.

Mark:
We wash almost every FedEx in Michigan and all of Toledo Ohio. The advice that has been given is right on target. They want a professional company. They want someone that is accountable, that means when they call your business someone is in your office handling that call working out any kinks. We started out with a price of $2.75 a few years back. Each year we raise our prices as with all of our accounts. We are now well over that $3.00 mark. We also propose a list of additional fees for things like closing doors and windows, minimum stop charges, washing the floor, if they turn us away with out cancelling in advance we charge a trip charge. (we charge this to all of our customers not just FedEx) When you price your services reasonably and list service fees for additional services you are telling your customer that your service has a value to it. Although this company demands a low price you can start low with your list of additional fees for extra work, then look forward to increasing your price each year. As long as your a valued vendor they will keep you. You also can keep lines of communication open. Get the manager's email. Email them when you can't make it or if there was a particular situation that happen the night before. You gain loyality when you establish a relationship. FedEx is a great company to do business with. Their managers are fair, polite and very reasonable and they pay FAST!! FedEx is our bread and butter. It keeps us washing in the winter when it's too cold to wash elsewhere. It is also a great name to mention when your selling your services to other companies. Good Luck.

I am currently working on a bid for my local Fed-Ex. But after seeing the last two posts, I think I am diffinately going to rethink this.

They have 29 trucks to wash twice a week.

$3.00 a truck seems awful low. I would have to wash 10 to 15 an hour to make any money on the account.

I don't think I can wash that many. Heck, I'm too lazy to work that hard. lol

FedEx Ground trucks ( Formerly RPS ) are owned by the drivers. I don't know exactly how it works but FedEx houses the trucks and takes care of having them washed, serviced, and maintained,I would guess the drivers are billed in some way... probably a set monthly fee. I talked with a driver here in VA and he didn't know how much it cost to get his truck washed. FedEx may pay more for these trucks to be washed since it doesn't all come out of there pockets.

YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT!!! the drivers own the vans & trucks, fed-ex ground pays directly to us, but they bill the drivers.but if I"m not mistaken they help with this cost, and its in their contracts to mantain theirs. but fed ex wants it done twice a week so this is what makes the difference, also the drivers are responsible for maintance of their trucks, and they personally own 3 of these vans fed-ex.
