Kero or Diesel??

What is your opinion on this......I have always heard that Kero burns cleaner, so that is what I use. Frankly, I'm sick of it and will not use it anymore.

Why, you ask? Because people are idiots. Every Kero pump around here has about a foot long hose.....only enough to fill a gas can with it. That way, the oblivious don't fill their car's gas tank with Kerosene. I'm tired of filling my washers with a gas can instead of the pump, so I am switching to diesel.

Two questions..........can I mix the Kero and the diesel in my tank, or should I wait until it runs dry? What side effects can I expect from burning diesel? Less heat? Dirty? What??

I appreciate any insight you can provide.

Mike Start using Diesel fuel. Some problems that will occur are that soot will build up on the burner coil and water moisture will build up in the fuel tanks. Using a product called Red Devil can minimize these problems. This Product must be used CONSISTENTLY or it will not help. It is not an overnight cure for these problems. You must use it with frequency or not at all.
I purchase Diesel fuel for 90 cents a gallon with no road taxes from Phoenix Fuel. I am a lucky person to live in a metropolitan area. They have pumps throughout the city. Each of my rigs has 110-gallon tanks. This is due to DOT regulations that state a rig can only carry 110 gallons of fuel. If you are in a rural area, you can transport up to 600 gallons of diesel fuel on a DOT approved trailer but you must obtain a permit.
De-scaling your burner and draining your fuel tanks are small problems compared to the problems connected with kerosene use. Kerosene has a higher flash point than diesel. It is also more expensive (by approximately 50 cents a gallon. An increase of 64%) and much more dangerous. Kerosene is not readily available and must be stored at specific temperatures. Certain OASHA regulations ban the use of kerosene. Other major corporations have adopted these policies as well and also ban the use of gasoline and kerosene. I realize your machine may not burn diesel to run the motor but keep in mind, some companies will only allow machines run entirely by diesel fuel.
A special note when working inside of buildings, you MUST use propane. Any machine can burn propane as an alternative fuel. I am not suggesting that you use propane when working outdoors, but as far as ******nment and conditions, there is no better fuel.
From someone who has years of experience with this kind of work. I am always willing to give useful advice to those starting out in the business and I always look for ways to improve my company as well.
Diesel burns hotter than kerosene. Mixing diesel and kerosene I can’t answer that question.

Mike,
I have read elsewhere that it doesn't matter if you mixed diesel and kero. I have tried it and nothing has happened yet..knock on wood....I agree with you on that little 2ft hose on the kero pumps, it makes it a real pain to fill straight in the pressure washer tank.

Kerosene is not meant to use in an atomizing burner. It is meant to use in a lamp with a wick. There are alot of different colors used in diesel fuel. The blue is the best one to use in an atomizing burner. Because it has a higher sulfer content, it burns cleaner in that scenerio. It also produces more BTUs that means hotter water. The other colors will work but, because of their lower sulfer content they will cause soot to build up in ihe burner and eventually choke out the flame by restrickting the air flow thru the coils.

Red Devil Liquid Soot Remover is a great product.

A Fuel Oil Additive for Oil Burning Furnaces, Pressure Washers, Steam Cleaners and other Diesel Engines. Removes moisture and sludge deposits. A special blend of chemical compounds, carefully formulated to attack existing soot formations and prevent further soot buildup.

I don't get this thread. Can you just run whatever kind of fuel you want through a burner?

And who is Ron Marshal?

Josh,

Clean diesel is the best fuel to use IMHO.
