How long does a cedar fence take to clean and seal? Say I have a poorly maintaned (greying) 200 ft. long fence X 5 ft. tall and I need to clean and seal one side. Do I need to bleach and rinse it in 10 ft. to 20 ft. sections so the bleach doesn't dry? After the fence is bleached and rinsed, how long do I have to let it dry in order to seal it? Is it better to rinse it and return the next day to seal it? How much would the material run for the described fence?

I appreciate the input. I'm trying to figure out how many fences I could do in a two or three day period so I can figure out if it is worth getting into.

Hey, this can always start up the Bleach or No Bleach debate again!!!

With the proper chems and set up, you can do mutiple fences in a day - with the proper stain, you can start and finish them in the same day.

***DISCLAIMER***
This post is not intended to start a "bleach or not to bleach" debate.

1. We don't use bleach on wood so your application, dwell, etc... is going to have to be answered by one who uses this method.

2. We would use a percarbonate cleaner, followed by a brightener followed by Wood Tux Wet. The entire fence would be cleaned and stained in half a day.

Can't really say what your material cost would be as that completely depends on what you are going to use. Our material costs are unusually low this year also (free wood restoration soaps).

I'm not a lot of help on this scenario for you, huh? Sorry!

Thanks again Celeste. I have no idea what I would be using as far as bleach or no bleach. I'm just trying to figure out the most efficient way with the best results so I have an idea how long it will take and how much it will cost. I think I'll go to a local PW supplier and get a tutorial from them. That should get me started and I can figure out what works better as time goes on and I gain experience.
