I have been always told to use k-1,burns cleaner.I dont think you need to use that cheap stuff,,might be up for some burner problems later. There is a reason why its cheaper, its lower quality. But lets see what others way.By the way i only use kerosene.

The off=road-fuel that is sold now is the same thing that was sold for years and years, just with a little dye in it. The stuff they use on the highway now is the new stuff that is supposed to burn cleaner. It is called low-sulfur diesel because most of the sulfur was taken out of it so as to meet newer anti-pollution mandates. The stuff sold as off road fuel is the original high sulfur fuel. Now it must contain a dye to distinguish it from the highway fuel. I have been using it in my burner for almost two years with no problems. I do have to replace the filter on occasion, but that's just good PM anyway.

What you Guys are Talking about is highly Illegal.!!!!!
believe us, the disel your are taking about is not Taxed,Thats why its so cheap, because it is for Farm-use only, that is why it has the dye in it,its to catch others useing it for non-farm use, the dye will stain also this is used to catch you as they say Red-handed, its even against the law knowingly selling it for non- farm-use, your talking about big-big Fines for this, but yes other than the dye,its the same stuff. your just not paying any taxes, this is done to help the farmers and aguculture for their equipment, such as Truck,Tractors,Combines, ect. and will void alot of warranties, that are not farm or aguculture Related.

Just Our Thoughts its not if you get caught, but when.
dont think the Tax-Man dont set-up still watches And STINGS, other-wise think how much we and the Truckers Could Save, everybody would be doing it if it wasnt illegal.
WERE SURE YOU GUY DIDNT KNOW THIS.

Here in CA, it's called Red Dye Diesel. You use it for off-road and home heating oil. It's exactly the same diesel except minus the highway taxes. I have been using it in my Pressure Washer for 5 years. As long as you don't use it in a vehicle that runs on a state or county road, you are fine. My accountant told me to start buying it!!!! Here it is perfectly legal in your pressure washer.

Hello,

The O R D fuel program is not strickly for farm use or ag use. It is legal to use this fuel for any purpose other than to propel a vehicle on a public highway. Heavy construction equipment use this fuel and it is perfectly legal to use it in your p/w burner. Just don't get caught with it in you truck fuel tanks.

The difference in price is from the lack of highway taxes.

See ya,
Rick

When the law states Farm Use they mean that use of the product is not for a moving vehicle on the highways. I think that we can use farm grade(color) in our PW burner system. My card lock charges us the tax/fed and State and we can get a refund or something-will call the card lock on Monday..

Thanks

There goes my Idea of getting a 300 gallon tank to get fuel delivered to it so I can fill up my diesel truck and my PW. for alot less then what I pay at a gas station. Right now I pay $1.80/gal for diesel. Oh well thats the way it goes. -John-

After reading some of the post we decided to check with the U. S. agricultural department this morning. They said that the diesel was to be only used for equipment that is used for farming and can not be used for anything outside the farming industry. We thought that was so for TN ARk and Ms. but just wanted to check after reading some of the post here. If we could use it in our pressure washer it would save us a lot of money and would love to save everything we could but I really don't want to loose everything over some taxes so I guess we will just have to keep paying for regular diesel just like the truckers. But if anyone finds out different please let us know. Be sure to get the names and departments of who you speak with so if someone ever tries to say no we can't do that then we have someone to go back on. Maybe we should get it in writing just to CYA.

The guy we spoke to was Phil @ The Department of Agricultural Farm Service Center 77777 Walnut Grove Rd Memphis, TN 38120 901-544-0228. This is what he stated to us.

You could both be right, there are two different types of non-taxed diesel fuel. The one that Dave is using has no road taxes because he is not driving his pressure washer down the freeway. The other is a special agricultural fuel that is even taxed less or has no tax at all.

Fuel tax #1

Agricultural fuel- only farmers can use this fuel. Some special agricultural bill passed long ago. Your not even supposed to be able to get this fuel price if you don’t show and exception card. The fueling places could be in more trouble if caught than the actual person using the fuel.

Fuel tax # 2

Diesel with no road taxes. Anyone who is not using it in and automobile can use this fuel. In my state there is no special permit they just trust you on your own merit.

Yes, they both have red dye and maybe the exact same fuel just depends on what portion of the taxes you pay.

Yes I think everyone is using the #2 program and its perfectly legal and some are just cornfused. Yes cornfused not confused.

Mistaken maybe that’s a better word, so Shirley is right and so is everyone else.

Anyone else wants too add maybe I missed something. Call me if you want to save money-buying fuel. The Fuel Company I use in phoenix is phoenix fuels and they can tell you about the regulations looks them up.

David S. your buying fuel from my neighbor Mr. Cardon, he the owner of cardlock fuels, closed all the places in phoenix I didn’t know he had some in cali. Scott stone knows the cardon too I’m sure. Large real estate outfit here in phoenix.

shirley, call a comercial supplier in your area not yor local gas station. we are not buying this fuel at a gas station. we have certain fueling pumps that are not for public use. i have a fuleing trailer i fill every other week.

keep in mind the local gas station has no benifit in giving you the real scoop. you need a comercial supplier.

usally if you see these pump they have no attendants. you use them with a special card that you will need to apply for. you state may have regulations on the use. again this is not farmer exempt tax fuel but no road taxes diesel.

I can't say about California for they have a whole set of rules for themselves, but here in the South, Memphis included, low-sulfar diesel fuel is taxed for road use and contains no dye unless otherwise noted. It can be used anywhere you want to put it.
High-sulfar diesel fuel must always contain a red dye and can be used in anything that does not burn the diesel to power the wheels to go down the road. It is completely legal in the reefer tank as long as it is not put in the fuel tank of the truck. It is legal for use in a truck that never,NEVER, gets on the public roadway. it can be used in tractors on the farm, or anywhere else that you want to use it except to power a truck down a public road.
Some places that do not have high-sulfar diesel fuel do sell a low-sulfar diesel for off road use but it must contain a red dye.
I've been driving a fuel truck for almost 20 years now and this is what the government tells us.

Mobileclean,

All diesel fuel for road use is taxed; no one is disputing that.

The red dye is merely a detection device for the d.o.t.

I don’t want to dispute the 20 yrs. but??????????

Ron,

Thanks for the information. We did not realize that there were 2 types of fuel. We knew we didn't want any problems with the tax man and was just trying to help everyone else here from getting in trouble with him either. We were just trying to give some information we learned from the agricultural department. We will call some of our local suppliers in the morning. We are sorry if we were wrong and thanks for the information. We like saving as much money as we can. I believe everyone in this business knows we all need price breaks anywhere we can get them.

Again, Thanks for the information and I will let you know what I find out.

Shirley you were not wrong, everyone was just talking about to things. As I said the fuels may be the same it all about the status. Farmers are tax exempt from these taxes if they qualify. We are only exempt from the road portion of the taxes. Again my state has no requirements other than you don’t use these fuels to drive a car or truck or anything on the road.

We use Amoco's Premier Diesel Fuel - Dyed. They say it is cleaner than K1. Use it in our 5800 Hotsy, engine & burner. It is doing a great job for us!

We are charged sales tax but not road use tax. Currently paying $1.278/gallon. We have a 300 gallon tank set at the suppliers yard. Our pump his electricty. Have a 50 gallon saddle tank on the side of our chassis and pump the fuel up to the unit in the van body.

Gad your all making me DIZZY.

Cali is right on, so is Shirley and all others.

I buy red dye without a problem, all I had to do was sign once stating it is used for off road or equipment and that was it.

Like Cali said, that dye is to catch cheating truckers and others who sneak it into the on road vehicles. Pity anyone getting caught, I think the fine is like $2000. the first time and double the second.

Just ask a trucker in a truck stop and you will hear stories glore.
