Been kicking around the idea of getting some stencils made up to do around my service area. For those that do this (stenciling)....hows the results been for you? Do you get leads from it or does the client call you up and yell at you for stenciling their property?

Just curious!!!!

I think the way to go about it a demo. If I was a owner and someone just did it and left, I would not call that company to come back and clean it. A good selling point would be a demo then you can talk face to face and have a better chance of selling your services

In one way I totally agree Chad cause this was what I was doing back in Feb....demos. I landed some decent flat work by walking into a store and asking for the manager. Dressed professionally and set up the demo for that night. When they would come in the next day they saw what we did (demo) and that promoted a more serious discussion whereas we stood a good chance of getting the contract....whether it be a one time clean-up or some type of regular maintenance.

Here in Calif...I am not sure of any laws surrounding this but I do know that I would need to tread carefully should I decide to do some stenciling. I read a while back on a different BBS that stenciling was one way to go but have not heard much about it since.

Good seeing you over here Chad.

Los, did I tell you my idea on them? If not, hit me up before you get them...

Hey bro...I think when you were chillin at the crib here you mentioned something about it but can't remember the full details. Honestly, you threw a ton of creative and smart marketing ideas when we were hanging out I cannot remember everything that you spoke on. You are a wealth of info man and I appreciate you sharing some of the ideas that you shared with me....I just need to implement them in 2011!!!

I have a stencil and have done 100's of demo's. The "guerrilla marketing", as some refer to it, as I have myself, has not been very effective. I prefer the method Carlos described, the personal introduction to the decision maker, an offer for a free, no obligation demonstration of the Grime Busters difference, then meeting with the decision maker the following day. Closure rate has always been high.

I think and this is my own opinion...what has been missing with stenciling is the right message. Putting a website/phone number on a stencil is like dropping a business card in a envelope and mailing it to customers....NO CALL TO ACTION.

However, if the right CALL TO ACTION was on the stencil...I am sure that more people would respond favorably to the stencil on their sidewalk or dumpster pad area.

One of my ideas is to have the stencil just say "Welcome". I have a bunch of reasons for it, but the main one is getting permission would be 10x easier. Putting your info on someone's sidewalk is..well, a little offensive. But, If it said Welcome, who would object to that. It would still show the contrast between clean and dirty.

That's not what I wanted to talk to ya about though, Los. Just make sure you give me a call before you order any. ;)

Those stencils I'd be careful with. In one breath I can see them working especially with Hot shots idea with the word welcome and maybe above a phone number and on the bottom a web address.

On the other breath what your doing is defacing property and that could cause some problems. 3 things could happened here 1-They call you to do the job because they love the way the stencil came out, 2-They are upset that you did that and now they want you to clean the whole walk for nothing. 3- they call the Police to press criminal charges because it would fall under 2 things with one being Defacing property and the other being a form of Grafitti.

To me its to much of a risk to just do a stencil and leave. I think the best way to go is to have a stencil made up and use that while your doing your demo. It will now show them the difference between the dirty concrete and the clean stenciled concrete.

Interesting tool.

Yep...I agree. I guess the cool thing about it is that I have a stellar working relationship with the police in my community regarding graffiti removal. The community service officer has been out to my graffiti removal jobs on more than one occasion to check on our work....which by the way was pretty good.

How weird it would be to have them roll up on my while I am doing a stencil job...

I need to check out the local ordinances to see what I can and can't do.

I know I could find some use for them down in Vegas....[r2]

Maybe because you have a good relationship with your police dep't you might be able to convince them that where ever you go to remove Grafitti they will allow you so use a stencil that states Grafitti removed by
Newlook Power Wash
Backed by SFPD

Or something along those lines. Heck go a step further and bring it to your town meeting and ask them two things 1-Are you excepting Bid contracts for Grafitti removal because I would like to represent your whole town with my survice and I would also like to Power Stencil on the wall or bldg that we cleaned with this stencil so all future Grafitti artest will be forwarned in advanced besides the obvious ticket they could get more importantly there illegal art work that there contemplating on putting up will be taken down by NEWLOOK.

Just a thought because my Guess is that the other Grafitti removing guy is clueless about these stencils. Beat him to the punch and bang you might get the city contract signed sealed and delivered....Just a thought.
