Time running out... please help a guy out

I'm a little desperate here for some quick help. I need to power wash my house this weekend for paint prep and need some help with the chem recipe. I just bought an X-jet and the instructions call for 2gal bleach, 1/4 cup of dawn, and the rest water in a 5gal bucket. I know I need to use TSP to...

    Roof Cleaning

Since no one else has mentioned this, I have heard that pressure washing a shingle roof will also shorten the life span of the shingles because power washing removes some of the protective top coating. I think steam cleaning is a safer way to clean a shingle roof. [green]

    2nd stories

There's a company named "A+" for almost every service industry listed in the phone book. I've even seen AA+ and AAA+ or A+ and then the real name of the business. It gets to be kind of crazy sometimes. [spin]

Buying new machine, thumbs up or down?

Alex, I almost had a deal like that a few years ago. A local PW guy did mainly new construction PW work, but he wanted out to do trim carpentry work. He was going to sell me his whole rig for 5k and even offered free training. We went out to do a job one Saturday, but got rained out because...

Paint prep for house... need some advice please

I used to hang out here a few years ago.. some of you may remember me. Anyway, I will be washing my house this weekend and will begin actual paint prep work next weekend. The house is a two story with brick on the bottom and masonite hardboard siding on the top, which is where most of the...

Ed, I'm too new to answer your questions about finding work and the EPA regs, but are you aware of all the taxes this state has? If not, then bend over baby cause here it comes! LOL Might not be any worse than where you are, but they tax almost everything here including food and any pets you...

    Power Washing School?

I agree with Shrido. I've learned a lot and have found answers to some of my questions by simply reading the archives here. But you folks have a strange way of making newcomers feel welcome. I was never told about the "initiation period" My post was well written because I have been "doing my...

    Power Washing School?

So that automatically makes me a bad guy just because I didn't include my life history? You judge my character only by where I live and work? Ok... if it makes you feel any better, I live in North Carolina and have worked at IBM Corp for the last twenty one years. Last time I checked, IBM was...

    Power Washing School?

Mr. Wood, You are way off base here. I can assure you that I have no affiliation whatsoever with the company offering the course. A question was asked and I simply answered it based on what I know. As a newcomer to power washing, I was simply asking if anyone has taken that particular course...

    Cleaning a stucco sided house

Thanks Mike....! I was wondering what Dryvit was and now I know! There's been several big lawsuits here in NC and probably other states too over the Dryvit material. Water gets behind it and doesn't drain or evaporate properly, so the outer shell and framing structure slowly start to rot from...

    Cleaning a stucco sided house

Is it real stucco or the artificial kind? Real stucco should clean up easily. I owned a white stucco house in Florida and never had any problems getting it clean with cold water and no chems. (I didn't know better at the time). Don't clean real stucco if freezing temps are expected because the...

    Power Washing School?

The class costs $500 which includes food, lodging (2 people per room), and ground transportation. Doesn't sound like a bad deal for the inexperienced pressure washer. They will overview cold & hot water machines and teach you from the ground up how to build and test Fire Cannon cold/hot water...

    Power Washing School?

I'm considering signing up to attend a three day power washing school taught by E********* in Homerville, Georgia. The course covers equipment maintenance/repair and many other areas related to power washing. I know it won't make me an expert overnight, but will give me a solid basic foundation...

    bribery and intemindation?

You probably ran across a local gang. They use graffiti to mark their territory and to send messages to other gangs and as a form of expression so to speak. I think you did the right thing and I would have been nervous too. Luckily they didn't try to harm you or your equipment. I'll bet the...

Safety Gear... what do you carry/use?

I know that most of you have (or should have) on your truck a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and MSDS sheets. Beyond that, do you always wear safety gear head to toe when applying and mixing chemicals in case the wind blows mist back onto you? Do you wear a rain suit or long boots when you...
