13 HP Honda

I can't get the engine to start. I have stripped everything off, (pump etc..). When I pull to start it feels like it has too much compression, and pulls the cord back. I even snapped the cord once. The oil level is fine, gas is fine, and I changed the spark plug. ????
Thanks Blake

You have either oil in the cylinder head or your valves need adjustment.

I have to agree with John. It sounds like oil in the cylinder but here are acouple of other problems that occur.

If the engine still kicks back make sure your exhaust valve is adjusted correctly. If it is too loose the compression release will not function. Also a period of 13hp honda engines had an incorrect torque on the flywheel nut which can cause a sheared flywheel key. If the key has been even slightly sheared the engine will have a tendancy of ripping your hand off.

Hope its just hydro-locked!
