a tip for glass

In another thread I wrote about my method of using 0000 steel wool dry. i thought I might dedicate a new thread to a couple of the tips I found useful. These are not armchair theory, these are tried and ture. Feel free to use them if you like and spread around any you find helpful.

1) I carry two 0000 wool pads on me. Actually it is only one torn in half. One is for wet work and stays in a pouch on my belt. The other is for dry work only and is in my pocket.

a) some brand of wool have a coating of light oil that if used dry will leave streaks or smears of oil. To remove this, wash the pad just before using it and dry with a hair dryer or heat gun. If you just wash it and not dry it, it will begin to rust.

I use the wet wool for dirty spots that need extra elbow grease. I sometimes use the wet one on larger silicon deposits...I carry a spray bottle of phosphoric acid to loosen stucco mud...when I hit the mud, I spray, let dwell while I work the rest of the pane, then hit the mud with a small blade...it pops right off. Actually, it tends to just dissolve..

The dry pad ONLY comes out on my second run to clean up smears or streaks...once the glass is totally dry, these streaks amd smears will wipe right off with the dry wool. I also have a serious micro fiber towell to do touch up after the wool.

I star on the outside first. I clean, detail and touch up. In that order-outside.

Once indside, sometime I see where I missed a spot or smear on the outside, I totally clean the inside then use a dry erase marker on the inside pane to mark the area outside that needs detailing. I circle it and draw tiny lines off the circle to show me right where to work when I go back outside.

Now, once the entire section of house or house or whatever is cleaned, i go back outside, detail the dranw line spots...then re-enter the house to wipe off the dry erase marker lines. Sometime they give me a hard time, so out comes the dry wool and TAH DAH.I go get my check, then go get my beer, then go get my hooker....just kidding. I dont drink beer.

I am sure many of us have tips and tricks, maybe we can share them.

0000 is good to get those bugs off the windshield also. Don't use finger pressure though, you can scratch the glass.

Never had a problem with 0000 wool. Maybe on tempered glass I could see a problem

Steel Wool, Scotch Brite, and detergent can make your work easy...
I suggest to go for detergent...
