adding a downspout to the gutter

I am adding a downspout to one of my rain gutters. I have the adapter that you slide into the gutter once you cut the hole to screw the downspout onto. But having a little trouble getting the hole cut, does anyone have a tip or word of advice? Thanks.

Try useing self taping screws..

If your useing a drill and it want dig into the metal try useing a 16teen penny nail or smaller, mark the spot and tap a small hole with the nail, then drill the hole.

Use a marker, outline the area you want cut out, then drill a small hole. Then use a jig saw to cut the metal out.

Hey Man,

Take the outlet (that part that connects the gutter to the downspout) to the local hardware store and buy a hole saw the right size. Then just drill out the hole, caulk around the hole with silicone and pop in the outlet.

Make sure you re-pitch the gutter so that water flows to your new downspout! To do this, just loosen all the nails on that half of the gutter except the very last one at the downspout.. Pull that one out last, then lower it an inch or so then put the other nails back in again working towards the middle of the gutter.

Aviators

A scratch awl or nail to start a hole works good. Then with a pair of aviator metels cutters you can cut rather precisely.

Might be difficult to cut easily with snips on the bottom of the gutter while it is attached to the house.

The hole saw idea sounds like the easiest!

Hey Mike it is the easiest. My company also installs gutters as well as clean and repair them. We also install gutter guard systems if anyone has any questions about them.
