hey everyone , i have a question that maybe you guys can help me with. i have been approached by the local telephone company for my new ad.do any of you have a small block ad?is it effective.also im thinking of putting ads in 3 or 4 more area phone books close to me ,like different counties my ads i find are the most costly part of my business, i have an ad in my local paper that is delivered to every home in my county that alone is 320.00 per month and the local newspaper another 200.00 i need some creative effective ad samples. for instance , the weekly local paper has a guy with an ad next to me offering 49.99 ranches and 89.99 two story. im legit and do the right thing and cant compete with him ,my insurance and all the other odds and ends he doesnt have that i have are killing me . was thinking of direct mail but again thats costly and not very effective. the more i think about it the more im realizing , i make money in april may and maybe june the rest of the year im pinching pennies, ive been trying to get fleets but cant seem to get any accounts and even if i had them dont know what to charge these boards are great but they vary so much because of the different regions of the country....any suggestions are appreciated mike

Hi

mike?, use the signature part of the sign in so people know who you are and where you are. The folks here like to get to know you a bit.
Im glad you made it here.
Are you going to go to the roundtable meeting next month?
Also try out the search button on this site. Every year at this time every new guy has the same question.
Some say the book get's them a ton of calls some say it's not worth a dime.
That lowballer type ads [like the one your talking about] steal the thunder.
I think a small cheap ad is the way to go. Then use target advertising. First of spring use the newspaper. Spend money on your rig.[lettering]. Yard signs are good.
Dont worry about the lowballer guy. You just need to make yourself look more like a pro then he dose.
If i had a $400,000 house would i want a $89 house wash?
He is going after a market you dont want. Volume not quality.
Use words like PROFESSIONAL,SAFE,INSURED,QUALITY,REFERRALS,PICTURES.
Oh well, this is my 2 cent's worth.
cold enuff for ya?
