Aluminum Fake shigle roof walking Question

Has anyone had to wash one of these fake looking shingle roofs? I have two shade sides of a roof with oak moss stuck all over them.

Concerns on aluminum roof for me walking and possible over washing effects.

Most of you know I do Decks and gutter cleaning but once and I while prior to spring I get roof's to wash till the weather gets nice. Believe it or not only one company does this in my area and they do just wood shingles! Common out to sunny warm and toasty California and get tons of roof work! It's just waiting to be picked.

My turn to ask a question instead of always answering them... :)

Aren't those metal roofs at least 26 guage steel? They make 'em that way to protect them from weather, and falling tree debris. Should be ok, unless you stomp when you walk.

Walking on them will damage them.

We have a few roof's like that around my area. The best way to clean them is from the peak of the roof and your usual house wash mix. Just be careful they can be a pain to clean sometimes.

They seemed thick I can go to the property and do a double check, They are sprayed with an undercoating type paint thats mixed color to look like a regular asphalt shingle roof.

I would assume they are made to walked on, Maybe just the seams were two shingles come together.

No Stomping? Guess I'll leave the mp3 player at home for this one. :)

Thank you

Pay attention to Henry's post, too. I just remembered I have seen those aliminum jobs before. Why in the world anyone would want a roof that wimpy is beyond me. But I guess they do exist.

Hey Henry! hope you had a good gutter season. It's starting to pickup here again for the spring clean. So hey you have the right description metal that looks like asphalt shingles right? How are you getting to the peak? The jobs not to big, the only other way looks like extension wand and lots of back muscle work.

I'm just going to use H20 the stuff seems to lift easy enough as it's a new roof. I'll do a sample before the whole job kicks in. It's an hourly if it looks to tech I'll pass, I don't want to wreck it.

Thanks again Randy , the customers cool so if it's not doable safely he'll be OK with living with it. He'll have to I guess... :) I felt something after i left saying something about cleaning it this November... I said I would do it March He's a good gutter customer... You know how it goes

If they cann't be walked on how did the roofer put them on......cherry picker huh.

Looks like one leg needs to be 3 foot shorter than the other one to walk on that roof.

Nice picture!! Were you in a helicopter when you took it, or one of those redwoods?! Also, I noticed that the windows are brand new (from the stickers). The house certainly doesn't look old enough to need new windows! Is it a new home? Why does the roof need to be cleaned??

Tim...

I cleaned a metal shingle roof last spring. It was steel rather than aluminum, the brand name was Decra metal shingles. I worked it from the ridges, but it was pretty resilient. I don't know if the aluminum are mounted the same, but these things were above the roof sheeting about 3/4" and attached by something like furring strips. I got to the ridge by carefully placing an extension ladder with horns in a spot where the contact couldn't do any damage.

This roof was full of lichen, and was a long day of work, but GREAT money. Everybody else said reroof, so the customer was thrilled. I'll post some pic's if I can find them.
