An Idea On Keeping A Pump From Freezing Up

How about building a little box around the pump insulated with foam insulation & use a lighter fluid hand warmer under it to keep it from freezing up too fast. I am trying to find figure out a way to protect my stuff at night in the teens (that's darn cold) in case it cuts off or a line breaks & you have to quickly shut it off.

What do you think? Could it work?

that may work,,,,
but why dont you just heat your whole unit and everything you have in it......
get a ventless propane heater and mount it on the wall ,use quick couplers when you are done w/a job put the couples together and turn on the heat.
however if you dont have an enclosed unit of some-sort that will ,,,,what i just said does u no good....

understand your thinking, good ideal, why not have a upholstery shop build you a padded cover to cover all the of the unit. You can leave it on going down the road also,,it may take longer to fix the breakdown and you want be hurrying up(makeing mistake)to get it going before it freezes,Still the Ideal you have is ok.

How about a halogen work lamp($10-$20. investment)? 250w,or 500w plug it in and cover your whole set up with canvas or an insulated foam board built like a doghouse around and over your wash unit? Just keep lamp from direct or close contact with flammable material.

I made a cover for my Tuff skid and put a 500 watt work light under the cover , plug it in to my 6000 watt generator on my trailer.if it is cold out and I'm between jobs or just a few miles from the shop i will fire up the generator and keep everything toasty till i get there. This saves on the hassel of antifreezing for 15 min.between jobs.

I don't know how much room you have , but if you build such a box your going to have to put it some where while you are operating your unit arent you???
You should be able to get a very good cover made for $80.00 or less that should out last your unit , and it will rollup and fit behind your truck seat or in your tool box when not in use.

Another dumb thought for you northern boyz to keep your stuff warm could you afix a electric blanket with plastic or simular to wrap around your equipment??

I was just thinkoing bout this freezing stuff,,the news just said we're getting a freeze here tonight so I gotta go out and fill my machines with anti-freeze
