Anybody washing school buses?

Hello All,

Anybody out there ever wash those yellow and black school buses? I was asked to bid on 80 of them. They are about 35 ft long on average.

The district wants pricing based on weekly, bi-weekly and monthly washing for the 9 month school year.

Is anyone out there doing an account of this type? How long should it take to brush wash a bus?

The buses can be washed during the week during the day so it would not affect my other fleet accounts on the weekends. Also the bus washing area has a catch tank with an oil water seperator so I will not have to reclaim washwater.

How about volume discounting? How do you guys do it? I was thinking of a 10% discount for the number of trucks. 10% for bi-weekly washing and another 10% for weekly washing.

Thanks for the help from a very newbie

We do 20 every other week. Takes 2 guys about 2.5 hrs. We get 15 bucks a bus. How they are parked and having room between the buses is important. If they can be staggerd, you can make pretty good time. Biggest problem on a sunny day can be the soap drying on one side before you get back around to rinse.

Good Luck

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. Since that post, I made the quote to the district and got the account. I start on Friday.

My price was very close to what you get. That makes me feel better about the job. We will be doing 80 buses once a month. I still need to work out logistics but I don't foresee any problems.

Thanks for the reply.

You are lucky to live in an area where there is enough money in the school system to pay for this type of service. I washed handicapped school buses (short buses) in my area a few years ago and lost the account to(you won't believe this)-PRISON INMATES!!!! At least that is what I read in the paper of who is doing them last. That don't sound fair does it? I guess you can't beat free labor though. (The guards watching them get paid the same at the prison or out on "chain gang duty".)
