This contractor has stained every deck in the neibhourhood with Behr, redwood.I looked at a deck and railings still were in good shape, deck floor was lightened up and molded some.
It dont look like deck needs stripping, its not black yet,and its been 2 years since application.Looks like it needs to be cleaned and refinished.
What are the options i have?I bid this one as a strip job, what could i put on top of this acrylic stain and not strip it.I told them i refuse to use Behr.

i suggest that you dont put anything on top. The behr should be removed. What would you do next time when you have TWO finishes to remove?? Gotta think long-term..........unless the people are selling the house and dont care.

If you explain to them the problems with piling one finish on top of another, most people would understand the need to strip.

I agree Mike,
Thats what i told them .i would need to strip.Thats what i always do if i get a deck with old finish ,is strip.I was just wondering if there is an other option i could use.Its hard to compete withy Joe Blow who does just that, never strip and just pile finishes on top for cheap.I try to be profesional and explain but some think i am trying to ripp them off and sell extra they dont need.

Win some, loose some. Start a mailing list of all of these bids you loose like this, then mail them a letter next year.............when they look out the window at the mess that guy created, they'll call you and you can up the price because of the extra work. :)
