I am considering buying a cd burner, and I was wondering what the best software is to make a complete copy of the hard drive.

I.E. Norton Ghost (which, doesnt seem to be very user friendly), DriveImage, others? I saw several different ones...............any suggestions?

I have used both Ghost and Drive Image extensively. They both do an outstanding job, and either one would fill your need.

However, I might be inclined to give the nod to Power Quest's Drive Image.

I don't know for sure if the latest version of Ghost allows this, but with the latest version of Drive Image, you can extract individual files out of the compressed image file. That can be a very helpful tool if you have the need to restore individual files occasionally.

Power Quest also makes another dynamite package called Partition Magic. It contains some neat tools that allow you to dynamically alter partition sizes without loss of data. There are also tools to convert from one file format to another, such as Fat to Fat32, or NTFS. I mention this package because it just seems to go hand-in-hand with Drive Image. The two packages give you excellent hard drive control and tweaking abilities as well as archival features that are second to none.

Good Luck

Mike,

And if you're going to buy a CDRW drive....Make sure it's a Plextor. Don't try to save a couple bucks, get the inarguably best writer out there.
