Briggs engine life

Mark,
Can you give me an idea on how many hours a Briggs 16 and 18 hp are designed for? Life expectancy.

Let's assume that normal maintenance has been pulled.

Both engines electric start, belt drive and are pushing burners. I think both burners are 12 v.

Are Briggs and Honda comparable as far as engine life goes?

you know and i know that their are a ton of vairable's that would apply.
What size pump it's running?
Is the rpm set perfectly?
Is it in a enclosed trailer or open[cool air mean's a lot]
When you say "reg maint" did you enclude adj the push rod's?
Most skid unit's are useing the full potential of a 16 hp.
2500 hr's would be good before you needed a rebuild[not worth rebuilding unless you can do it yourself]

Ron,
I do beleive that some pwer manufactures are pushing the edge of useable h.p..

But if I p.w. 8.0 hours a day x 365 days per year that =2,290 hours per year. So based on these numbers and what your saying I would need expect to purchase a new engine every year.

I would think that the engines are designed for more hours than that.

Maybe this is a question I need to ask the engine manufactures directly.

I have found the Kohler, and the Honda to usually outlast the Briggs.

But there are variables.

Other then replacing a starter gear about once ayear I like the 16hp V.G..Every few problems over the years running the 16hp V.G.,simple to work on,easy to fix.Sold one a few years back to another contractor and it still burns the tailpipe white, its over 14 years old.Been running a 20hp Honda for 2 years, the first few months it give me fits as to what was wrong, unpluged the oil alert and been running ok but still like the 16 Briggs V.G.

I Have used the same(16 hp Briggs powered )skid almost every day for nine years. I put a starter,Fuel pump, plugs, valve cover gasket, many regulators and a set of exhaust gaskets in that time. I have never adjusted the valves or carb,it leaks some oil but other than that it runs great. I don't know how many hrs are on the engine but after owning for a couple of years I added a hr meter it had 2200 hrs on it when it stopped working many years ago..... I guess I got a good one, knock on wood........

if you were to your wash unit at full tilt for that meny day's why would you care about a $800 motor once a year?
You want the best just get a kabota diesel
No more gas can's. Will last for year's and year's.
Their was a real nice wissconson diesel unit on ebay for $4500 that i was supprised no one bought.
When is someone going to play MOSTER GARAGE and make a wash unit out of a motorcycle motor or a old VW ENGINE.
tHE MOTORCYCLE ENGINE COULD BE USED WITH AN OVERSIZED RAD. and prob run for a long long time.
Wreaked bike's,bike's with lost title's,theft recoveries,salvage titled,and garge sale's all have cheap bike's.
Get an old HONDAMATIC motorcycle and you could have a seloniod activated clutch system that would save fuel and your pump.
FIRST EVER HARLEY BELT DRIVEN PRESSURE WASHER
NOW THAT WOULD BE COOL.
Im going to the bike show in NY next week and see PAULY.
Maybe he will start his own monster garage show to compete with "show me the money, sucker" Jessie james?
