Mark,

you read my mind regarding the posting of the above information. I did receive the AP article that you mention above and was going to post this exact same information.

Certainly the 'California Wash & Capture Symposium' at the end of May could not have come at a better time. I invited some washers down in the Bay Area to this via email and posting on the different BBS's but we will see who shows up.

It is my belief right now that S. Calif. will be the first to issue water restrictions however I can't help but look at the 'brown hills' that are usually green in my neck of the woods.

RFW and the UAmCc will keep this in the forefront.

These statements that the public sees are the single largest alert to power washers making a stink on how IMPORTANT our services are. We are crucial to keeping run-off as clean as possible, otherwise, groundwater becomes contaminated. Get in front of this problem!! It is NOT fun trying to survive a drought with uniformed decision makers and paranoid property owners!!!

Take heed to what Celeste says because it is all 100% true. I have already been in contact with a few washers in the Bay Area and this topic will remain as a very important topic for the washing industry.

Mark we don't have it as bad as you guys do as of right now, Only lawn watering 2 days a week and we have had that for about 4 years now, but as far as other restrictions this year so were OK so far. We had a nice winter a little over ave. but better then last year. But all it takes is one bad winter and they will put them in affect, we have had them here before in past years.

So for now were OK, but will see in a month or so of summer time heat to see how much the usage is and go from there. But I do have the system for it and I think I'm the only one in this area ready for what they throw at me :)

Lake Tahoe is real low too, but were not hearing much about it up here or atleast I have not heard anything. I know we can only water grass two times a week, but from the looks of Lake Tahoe I'm sure soon we will hear more.

Weather watchers fear that a cooling cycle in the Pacific Ocean will bring what California needs least: another drought year.

The National Weather Service announced this week that a La Niña pattern has taken hold across the Pacific. Marked by a cooling trend in the waters of the equatorial ocean, La Niña usually diverts the jet stream north into Canada, bringing dry conditions to California.

La Niña was also present last winter, and it brought the second dry year in a row. Rain and snowfall virtually disappeared in Northern California after January last year.

This year's La Niña looks stronger and longer-lasting, said Bill Patzert, a climatologist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

"The dice are pretty loaded here against a big snowpack and a heavy rainfall," said Patzert. "But you know, this is one of those things where I really love to be wrong."

December brought a week of welcome snowstorms to the Sierra Nevada, California's water bank. Snow totals for the winter so far exceed last year at this time but are still below normal.

A "Pineapple Express" storm predicted to hit Central California on Christmas Eve – bringing heavy snow and torrential rain – did not materialize. It turns out La Niña was at least partly to blame.

Though it did rain and snow over Christmas, Dave Reynolds, meteorologist in charge of the weather service's Bay Area bureau, said currents associated with La Niña pushed the heavy precipitation north of California. More of the same could be ahead.

"Needless to say, this pattern is not good for the water supply," Reynolds said via e-mail.

El Niño is the more familiar pattern. Named after the Spanish term for "Christ child," because it usually emerges in the Pacific around Christmas, El Niño warms the equatorial Pacific and typically brings consistent wet weather to California.

La Niña, or "girl child," is harder to predict. It has brought both terrible droughts and terrible flooding to California.

In fact, the worst floods on the American River have come during La Niña years, because it actually creates better conditions for those dreaded Pineapple Express storms – if they can break through the altered jet stream.

Absent such storms, odds favor dry weather.

"We're remaining hopeful the pattern will change enough that we begin to get some repeated storms into California that will help out our water supply," said Rob Hartman, hydrologist in charge at the weather service office in Sacramento. "The first couple weeks of January don't look all that optimistic at this point."

Drought Prompts State Of Emergency In Valley - Sacramento News Story - KCRA Sacramento

Hello All, Last season in Massachusetts we had one of the driest years in decades. Business was booming for us.( Despite the economy) Nearly every town we serviced started posting mandatory water bans. My town had huge banners that draped over the down town area. Needless to say this had a substantial impact on our year.
We visited the town hall to make sure that we could still run our business. We were still granted the go ahead to continue. However most of our customers were afraid that they would be fined if they had there house/property cleaned.
We started bringing our own water from our shop. This was not the most ideal way to clean all our houses but it eased the mind of most of our customers. That was an interesting year of being creative and trying to run a business when your number one tool is taken from you.

It turned out to still be a great year!!!

Drought = Wash Water Reclaim opportunity

Anytime, and anywhere there is a drought issue of any kind,
you will have an easier time selling cleaning services that reclaim water.
Even if you don't actually "re-use" the water..
If you put the water on the customers' landscaping,
"watering the yard" is considered re-using that water.
..As soon as the water is used for a 2nd time, it is recycled,
and typically exempt from drought restrictions.
Don't loose sales for a simple "missed-interpretation".
