Chalky substance after wash

What is the best way to remove the chalky film left over after washing a home? I rinsed and rinsed more (maybe not enough). It is a painted lap board siding home. Better yet, what can be done to prevent the same thing from happening again?

I used 1/2 gal DNB 1430, 3 qts ultra bleach, shot of cascade pure rinse and a shot of R-109 remainder water to fill a 5 gal bucket.

Thanks,
Roy

The chalky substance you are getting is oxidation. Ideally if the paint is in good shape you should be able to remove all of the oxidation and still have a good coating on the surface. If the siding has been neglected for a long period of time you may be down to the wood in some areas before all oxidation is removed. At this point it is long past time to repaint/stain the exterior. We also perform test patches prior to starting the job to decide this up front. Then if painting will be required we subcontract a painter and pull together an estimate for the customer from there. Present it as part of your bid and add 10-15% for your troubles.

As stated this is called oxidation. I would walk away from it. Alot of headaches could occur if it needs to be painted and customer doesn't want to do that. Also if I were you who ever does the painting should do the powerwashing. If something goes wrong with the paint job he will blame you and you will blame him. In nother words the customer will not be happy.

Yea, I knew it was oxidation. Yea, I washed the house so it could be painted by SOMEONE ELSE. Took the job because I also got their 22x33 ft deck job. There didn't seem to be much oxidation before the wash job though, no there is lots! I need to be careful with the washing part though it's lapboard.

I guess there are no quick fixes.

thanks for the help greg and charlie.

Look at this as an opportunity to creat business! We work in conjuction with 3 other painting companies in our area and provide ALL of their prep work. This is work you do not have to "look" for because they bring it to you. We will provide $35-$40k in prep work this year and it is easy money after doing the footwork. Most are 1 day jobs and we are able to send them work as well. Work with reputable companies and provide nothing but quality service and it result in a profitable venture for all of you. Every problem has a solution..... you can choose to help the customer solve their problem and profit...or run like a chicken and wash cars. Throw a little more optimism into it....

Good Choice.
