Can anyone tell me how to clean a copper canopy.I thinks thats what they are called.I did a stucco house today, looks great all but this little copper roof, all black and dark green,i would have been glad to shine it up and make new again.Since i had nothing to clean it with i left it as it,kind of ugly, but i didnt charge for it either.
What cleans these,i am thinking myself some kind of a polish should brighten it up,like polishing an old penny.

Do you guys charge seperate for cleaning these or its all part of house wash?
Thanks Johny

I'm not sure how to do it myself, and now that you mention it, I have a customer that wanted me to clean on last year when we did their deck, and we never did get to it.

It should definately be an additional charge.

Johny,

Actually, the copper is supposed to turn green...think Statue of Liberty. Any cleaning would only be temporary, as this is the natural oxidation of copper. As I understand it, the green patina acts as a layer of protection for the copper, which would explain why they don't polish copper/brass statues.

if you want to shine it up alittle try useing white distilled vinegar as it has no protection to keep it from turning back to its copper green.

I know copper turns green,if its uniform green it might be ok,but this here was real agly.Looked just like bird droppings turned green and rest was dark.Maybe those were droppings ,who knows, but it definetely could have made the house look better.Even if it lasts only a while,i can always come back and redo it.What about sod percarbonate, remember seeing oxy clean comercial.Tried it once, didnt dwell long ,didnt work and i gave up.It was really cold fall day,it might work after all

Try a product called Brasso. It can be found at most hardware stores. Apply it like you would car wax, but it doesn't have to stay on that long. I realize this takes some elbow grease, but it will have copper shining like a new penny.
