Dec. 1 deadline set in Car Wash Guys case
WASHINGTON - The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and mobile franchisor Car Wash Guys International have a little more than a week to keep the FTC's misrepresentation suit against the company from going to trial.
According to Elizabeth Grant, of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection, the FTC and Car Wash Guys founder Lance Winslow III have until Dec. 1 to reach a settlement agreement. If talks are unsuccessful, the case could go to trial.
A federal court has issued a temporary restraining order against Winslow and the Car Wash Guys International, Agoura Hills, CA, at the request of the FTC for allegedly making false earnings claims to market and sell mobile carwashing franchises in the United States.
In addition, the FTC alleges that the defendants violated the Commission's Franchise Rule when the company failed to provide prospective franchisees with written substantiation for their earnings statements. The court's order prohibits the defendants from engaging in these practices and freezes their assets until the case is resolved.
The Car Wash Guys, which sells mobile carwashing and detailing franchises, claims to operate 180 units nationwide.
Winslow maintains his innocence and says the charges against him are unfounded and were brought forward by a handful of disgruntled franchisees.
It looks like Lance better get a lawyer.
