There are a number of desktop applications out there, some of them are bundles into suites. Which are you using? If you are using something that is not listed, please share with us on this thread.

Beth,

You have in the poll MS Works, I use MS Works Suite 2001, not really sure of the difference but I will list what comes in MS Works Suite 2001:

Picture It!
Works
Encarta Encydopedia Standard 2001
Street & Trips (there are much better ones online, this one is truly not easy to use.)
Money ( I use Quick Books Pro, did not install this)
Word 2000

Previous to this I had used MS Office Pro

When I was in IL. I used MS Office always and Goldmine for a contact manager. I used QuickBooks for accounting. Now that I have a fresh start in Texas I have decided to go with MS Office and Easy Route for my accounting and contact manager. I really feel that was a great decision.

Easy route is just that. I never have been more up to date with my paper work than I am now. I am more organized and detail with my information. I am tracking my advertising for the first time with a program and not in my head.

Toot or not it's a great program. Dave S. our exhaust guy uses it too. Check it out. I have been using it since Oct of 2000 and I love it. It seemed lame at first sight, but all good companies use this type of software. Easy Route Software Free Trial Now I know why. Max the owner is great and will talk to you for hours on the phone. Toll Free 1-800 468-3024.

Sorry for the plug, but the subject came up and I felt this was a good time to give my opinion on it. Winter is coming and could be a good time to spend some time with the trail and check it out.

Enjoy, let me know what you think off it.

Dan, I looked at that Easy Route months ago, and I could just not get over how primitive it was........couldn't even stand it. How long did it take for you to get over that?

I use MS Office. MS Outlook for email, notes, calendar and contacts............all syncs with my Pocket PC.

I use Quickbooks Pro for accounting, and ACT! for contact management.

I agree, it does look lame. But it's powerful and fast. You have to play with it. The best thing about it is, when you get over the fancy Color and hoopy in a windows program. You will soon learn that, straight to the point is the way to go. It's a lot less stress trying to figure out how to set this or that up. It's just a cool program. It's not made to look pretty. It's made to do a job for you. Very customizable too. I like it because I tend to make things more complicated than I should.

It's hard to explain, but I am ten months in and love it. It could have a few more features. But they are not necessary. But would be nice. If you get sometime over the cooler months I would consider it. Definitely if you're new and are starting from scratch.

It might look primitive, but Easy Route will out perform anything that has been mentioned. I have been using it for three years. I was using FileMaker-Act-along with MS office. All of those programs were slow and cumbersome, and I just know there had to be a better way. Now I use Easy Route-MS Office-Quicken along with Handspring/Palm OS.

Easy Route is like a empty glass. You must first fill the glass, and then the light will come on. You will be able to know everything about your customers in three key strokes. It will send past due accounts a bill at a preset number of days. In two key strokes it can tell your account receivable in 30-60-90days by account in vertical format. You could set a appointment for June 8, 2008 & when that week comes up you will find the appointment.

This program is worth two employees working in a office.

WOW! Filemaker....now there's a blast from the past....been years since I saw that.

We use MS Office Pro 2000, Quick Books Pro and ACT! I also use the Dreamweaver and Fireworks Suite, and WinFax Pro.

And of course, Norton for Antivirus needs.....

For an office suite, especially if there are no requirements for compatability in file transfers look at Star Office. It is powerful and free to download from Sun Microsystems. It does everything the others do except work on an Apple OS machine, yet.

There are all kinds of contact managers and customer relations managers; I like Maximizer for it's full relational data base and powerful built in e-commerce solutions. It will allow you to analyze your sales and prospects, merge and manipulate data in fields that you choose and generally allow you to do more than you want. The other reason I like it is because it is Canadian (a small prejudice on my part!)

Quickbooks and MS Money appear to be popular and work well. I suggest you go to www.tucows.com to see what other programs are available for your OS that may even be available for free or as shareware and will do exatly what you wish.
