Do you back-up your important computer files?

Do you back up your files??? I started doing it on a regular basis. Back up anything you do not wish to lose. I back up my Quickbooks files and Microsoft Money files onto floppy disks. In addition to that, I back up almost all of my data files to a 250MB Zip drive.

The reason I am writing about this is, two days ago I detected a virus on my system. The last two days, instead of being productive off-season days, have been miserable, pull-your-hair-out type of days. Viruses suck. Protect yourself. If you don't already, invest in virus detection/protection software. If you do have anti-virus software, make sure you update your virus definitions on a monthly basis, because new viruses are found all the time.

This virus attacked a file that is vital to the operating system..........I could not even turn the computer on. I had to restore the system, which essentially totally erases your hard drive. Where would I be without the backups? SOL

So, again............back 'em up.........or, you could be really sorry. And run the anti-virus programs, or you too will be spending hours resetting your system instead of doing the things you should be doing.

Hi Mike,

Yes I back up my accounting files several times a day. We use QuickBooks Pro. Our computer has a 100Mb Iomega Zip Drive. I can back it up in about 60 seconds. Works great.

Dave,

Also, consider backing up on a different disk for every day of the week........that way, if you have a problem one day, you can just go back to the disk from the previous day.

And one more thing........its always a good idea to keep a copy somewhere other then your office.......such as a safe deposit box.........protects your vital data from loss if you have a fire. Food for thought.....
