Do you shut the gas off on your single cylinder engine before
going from one site to another?

If you have a engine such as a GX390 or similar with gas tank
above engine you definitely should always turn the fuel valve off
when done using the machine.

We have seen countless GX390 Honda powered pressure washers,
come in for repair with customer stating " she won't start"

Here is a YouTube video which illustrates this problem.

Ok, that was some GREAT information. I just had a crankcase flooded with fuel from a stuck float valve on one of our small ones, but we never shut them off and I had no idea about this problem. I'm going to get the oil changed in all of them in the next few days and putting fuel shutoff in the procedures.

Thanks Mark, that info was worth the price of admission!

The only thing that I do is dump my poly tank of all the water with the exception of maybe 20-40 gal. I leave that just in case I need water if my truck overheats. I also have stopped on the highways to assist other people with this due to their vehicles overheating. When I get to my service accts I fill up on the first stop and keep the tank full until I am ready to go to the next city or state!

I do similar. Run around with about 1/3 the tank full to offer a business a fast detached sign washing...

Mark, I had been having problems with my GX390 not starting. It would actually start spitting gas out of the carb when pulling the rope. My small engine guy told me to always, when I am done for the day or that job, to NOT trun it off at the switch and instead turn off the gas to it and let it "run" out of gas. Ever since I have been doing that, I have never had a problem starting it.

Hello fellas,
I have not been on here in quite some time. Anyway....Mark and Doug...Good post's.
YES shutting off the fuel and running it dry is for sure the best way to avoid, crankcase filling up with Gasoline. It may also find it's way into the cylinder, If that happens when you go to start it, it will lock up. But also just shutting off the fuel valve without running the bowl dry, would work just fine.
I have seen this happen on just about any make of Engine. Pressure washers, Blowers, Generators...Etc.

Cheers! David D.
