Free websites are usually worth what you pay for them. Spend the $15 per month and host with yahoo. Their web builder is sweet. Make sure you register a unique domain.

"Free" web pages/hosting...
I'd have to agree here...you almost always get what you pay for; however, you can find "free" pre-built web pages that you can customize with content specific to your biz. The "price" to use this type of webpage is usually to simply leave a link to the page provider's site where they have both free and pay-for products. Hosting with Yahoo, Dotster, or some similar firm is a good idea and as PressurePros said, you should register a unique domain name (e.g. somedomain.com).
Here's a good site with "free" page templates and other very useful info:
Steve's Templates . I've used one of these templates, with good results, to build a simple site for our irrigation district.
Simply bring the template into whatever program your using (FrontPage, Dreamweaver, etc) and use that program to make your mods. You will then need to transfer your page to the hosting site. I'm sure your hosting company can tell you how to do that. I use cuteFTP but there are tons of others as well.

web page basics
I currently have a few websites that I currently have working, when you 1st decided to do a website who is your audience, Your Elderly (pardon my stereotypical remarks) don't prefer to get on-line and check out your credentials or about your services, they typically like flyers, and finding your add in the yellow pages. In otherwards passive marketing. With free templates you are getting a BLAH.... site, that does however effectively show what you do, Content editing is limited to what the template is geared for. I currently use Flash enabled sites and although YES it's a lot of bells and whistles, (NOT TO MENTION THE TIME I HAD TO PUT INTO IT), has gotten GREAT reviews from people in my marketing audience. Although not online yet as I have about 25 hrs left of scripting to do before it's finished.
This is true however, you must make sure that your domain name isn't already taken, People actually make a substantial profit off of taking and registering a domain name and holding it, only looking to sell the domain name (I've seen a name go for 10k) to people desiring the handle. They are even shady enough to go as far as waiting until the domain comes back up for renewal and if you don't, guess what- they will buy it and register it again looking to sell it back to you!!! You may be able to find the same name domain but with a different extention such as .org or .net. To check availibility go to a site such as domainmonster.com it's british but you can at least check if your desired name has been taken.
For a better / great website you can find a designer for around $500, however you need to clarify exactly what you want, and any maintenance fee's they will charge to update or change your site, I know a few of them some charge maintenance, other's guide you thru the editing process so you can do it yourself on a consistent basis
Some hosting companies will even let you e-mail your page as an attachment.

Microsoft Expressions has replaced it.
Although if you already have a licensed copy of frontpage you can upgrade to expressions for about $99.00 or pay $300.00 for the regular.
These website builders are good for people that know code though.
You may want to look for one that has just a drop and place type of template and program. It already has the code built in it for html and so on.
