I'd like to get everyones thought on their current business situation.....Typical July Slowdown or more than usual.

I was incredibly busy in May and June, now Im starting to slowdown. I still have work but the phone is not ringing off the hook.

Hows everyone else doing - hopefully good!

Biz is slowing to a bearable pace...this is why I now advertise in 6 phone books it keeps me busy along with repeat customers.

I would also like to add that I advertise in 6 phonebooks, but I am advertised in a lot more.I just recently found out that those second rate yellow pages have me listed with a one liner. So far I found my name in every one that I have looked in,I am willing to bet that most of us are listed in generac phonebooks and don't even know it.I guess they get my name from the main book and put it in theirs. Most of you who have had a one line ad know that they are good for 8 or 9 calls a month during busy time and 1 or 2 during lean times(now)
I have ads in a bunch of categories:(Building cleaning, deck cleaning and waterproofing,Pressure cleaning or power washing, gutter cleaning and asphalt maintenance.)
So my phone always rings!

All my business now is referral. I have my appointment book filled until the 2nd week of August. I do about 1 1/2 decks a week and am by myself. Will start my newspaper Fall add in the middle of August. Time to get them ready for winter. Can't believe how great business has been and looks very promising for next year thanks to great advice from those on this board. You all have taught me alot and have given sound advise. Keep it up, that's the only way us "new" to the bidness guys can hope to achieve the level that most of you are at.

Thanks to all

Gotta agree with you J.R., it never does end. We have been going real strong since early May, 6 to 7 days a week. Put a lot of money in the bank, that way if we have a rough winter we have funds to fall back on.

Hey Everyone!
I am having the best July ever!(and year) I have doubled my sales in every month so far. The new teephone book came out and I am recieving 3-4 calls a day, and getting about 50% of them. I to work by myself and am getting a little overwhelmed, but hey, when the sun shines you gotta make hay! I hope the streak continues until the snow flies! Have a great rest of the summer everyone and lets be careful out there!(We had a 120 degree heat index here today) See ya !

Gordon,
I clean gutters to get me through the winter along with plowing.November 10 through december 5 is about the window for cleaning gutters.I did about 12 grand last fall. Was a real pain with the cold and early snow but I got close to 250 of them @ $49 each. The problem is, you have about half of your customers that want it done in the spring when business is booming.

What keeps us going in winter is our fleet washing. We had a terrible December last year, a lot of snow and VERY cold temps., but after that January and February picked right back up. Like I said, we take on as much as we can handle thru the summer so that if we have a rough winter we can take a couple of days off and not worry too much. Now if the weather is bad for a few months in a row we start going stir crazy! Gordon Great Lakes Power Wash, Inc.

That has been what's driving me insane for the last month and a half. I was backed up over two weeks with washing jobs when the phones started ringing for gutter cleaning in June. Since then it has been non-stop long days, and disappointing people (everyone wants them done yesterday). I am still nowhere near being caught up.

I was able to clean gutters up till December 18th last year.
