Illegal Immigrants

DrWhipIt, Healthcare is a mess in part BECAUSE of the illegal immigration problem.

Environment problem? What environment problem? You're not going to say global warming, are you? Yeah, we need to keep our air clean, our rivers and streams are too polluted. It's all because of this current administration? Are you saying we didn't have a pollution problem before 2000?

"Ever widening chasm between the haves and the have nots?" that's the very problem we are trying to get a hold on! The government expects the "haves" to hand over to the "have nots" because the have nots refuse to get up off their lazy asses and get it themselves, and become haves.

Don't insult my intelligence with such ramblings. Those are just senseless talking points. Talk about smokescreens.

Here I'll give you a hint, this is the first half of the poem:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips.

Absolutely!!! But give them to me LEGALLY, according to and not in violation of our laws.

I thought u guys might like this one:

Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA ). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) filled it with GAS from (Saudi Arabia) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his Computer (Made In Malaysia), Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in....AMERICA....????

I complete understand some of you guy's point of views. Yes your tax dollars are paying for their healthcare and for many other things, but you all fail to realize that so are the non english speaking hispanics ( from all countries) that live in the U.S. I lived in the U.S for many years and have now come back to El Salvador which was where i was born, ( i am on vacation). Now i am an American just like any of you ( yes even though i was born in another country that wasn't the U.S)
Lots of people seem to forget that people that were born below the U.S are also americans. Yes they are; people from Mexico are North Americans, people From El Salvador are Central Americans, and people from anywhere in the "americas" are also AMERICANS. So you see you don't have to be born in the U.S to be an American.

Now that we got that straight. You are right some U.S born americans will do almost any job not only for a decent salary ( but only for a good wage most of the time, I know my friends would not work for low wages and neither would I) But i know alot of very low paying jobs like growing peaches in california and apples and other types of fruits and other jobs that i only see other races doing. That most of you guy's wouldn't do for that amount of money.
I know that in school they teach that california and other states were stolen from mexicans, it might not sound good but those of you who really know the U.S history know that it is true. I mean come on the people that came to the americas came from a foreign land and then took over a land that wasn't theirs, i believe that constitutes stealing. I know that you might not want to hear that but those are facts. The U.S is now your country but it wasn't at first and all of you were immigrants ( you may not call them illegal immigrants cause there was no law that made them illegal during that time) Now if they came from a foreign land to better them selves and escape persecution than why can't some people who contribute to the country go to the U.S

Other races also contribute to the U.S as muchas any of you. I know that most of the people from these forums are good individuals and some of you may think that the illegal immigrants are invading your country, but hey you did it first, so quit complaining. I pay taxes for my businnes like any of you do, so why can't i be there if i am a working class person. We're all human beings that are looking for a way of life and as long as they're not criminals who are doing the samething to make other races look bad they should be given a chance to better themselves.

Yeah they do send alot of money to other countries, but don't you guy's send some alos to yours when they are in need. So why can't they? it's their money! even though their family members live in another country.

you need to quit looking as only the people that were born there as Americans and look at the whole country as a country who values diversity and become a united country. You should be proud of who and where you and your ancestors come from, but they should also be allowed to be proud of their heritage.

that's why there is so many problems in the states, instead of bitching about other cultures and other immigrants just like your family members once were. You should all be united and try to keep the country as a good country to be in. Instead of fighting all of those immigrants you should be trying to fight all those terrorist that want to kill all americans and think that they are going to heaven by doing so. They're bad people in every culture but we should look at the good things they can bring also instead of all the bad ones. They have a right to better themselves just as much as any of you.

i hope to not have offended anyone with this reply, as it was not my intentions. But only to enlighten you a bit, and let you know that you are not the only Americans on the planet. So the next time you look at a mexican and think of him as a illegal immigrant, keep in mind that they are Americans just as any of you if not more. Since all of their ancestors were americans even before your ancestors invaded their land.

Luis, I respect your input and your opinion, but you've got just a slight misconception of the subject matter. Have you read the entire thread? By calling ourselves "Americans" we mean that we are from the COUNTRY of the United States of America. We don't mean the CONTINENT of North or South America. You're just talking symantics (sp?) there.
I don't think anyone on this bb has said anything that could be considered racist or bigoted, and it sounds like you have taken offence in some way. I don't think anyone here had that intention.
Yes, this country was founded by, and populated by immigrants. Yeah, right again, there were no laws back then preventing such. But, regardless of how you or anyone else feels about it, there ARE laws now against coming here and working here just any old way. We are now an established sovereign country with an elected government.
My ancestory is dominantly Irish. I do not consider myself an Irish-American. I am an American.
Yes, you are again right. I think we absolutely should be proud of our heritage and hold true to our diverse cultures, but to put labels on it only serves to divide us as a people, not unite us. African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Indian-Americans, Italian-Americans, Native-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Irish-Americans, you get the idea. How the Hell does that say unity?
If anyone wants to come here and reap the benefits of being in this country, put in an honest days work and get paid for it, then they should pay taxes, contribute to Social Security, learn to speak English, and become an American. Otherwise, get out!
And quit jamming up our school systems and slowing down the education process for a few non-English speaking students so my American English-speaking kid with a father who is a legal citizen can get the education he deserves that his father (me) works his ass off to make sure he gets! (whew!)
And quit jamming up our emergency rooms with free health care patients that don't speak English that we have to pay for with our tax dollars. Last year, 5 emergency rooms in L.A. County, CA were forced to close their doors because they simply no longer had the funds to continue operating. They spent too much capital providing free health care to illegal immigrants and had to close down. Now, what happens to the legal citizen's child who has an acute asthma attack? Will the child die because there wasn't an emergency room close enough to get him/her taken care of quickly enough?
I'm certain that while everyone here may not agree with everything I've said in this post, must agree that everyone is welcome in this great country of ours, regardless of race, skin color, religion, or origin. But what is so wrong with wanting everyone who comes here to abide by our laws? That's what is expected of every citizen of this country. Why shouldn't the same be expected from a visitor?
Hey, that's just the way it is: If you break the law, you are a criminal.
By the way, Luis, I'm from Texas. My state was started by, you guessed it: Mexicans.
Mexicans who were sick and tired of putting up with a corrupt tyrannical government and came here to establish The Republic of Texas. They worked right along side the local settlers to beat the living Hell out of Santa Anna's Army. That's not stealing. That's unity, brother!

read this and weep

Quietly but systematically, the Bush Administration is advancing the plan to build a huge NAFTA Super Highway, four football-fields-wide, through the heart of the U.S. along Interstate 35, from the Mexican border at Laredo, Tex., to the Canadian border north of Duluth, Minn.

Once complete, the new road will allow containers from the Far East to enter the United States through the Mexican port of Lazaro Cardenas, bypassing the Longshoreman’s Union in the process. The Mexican trucks, without the involvement of the Teamsters Union, will drive on what will be the nation’s most modern highway straight into the heart of America. The Mexican trucks will cross border in FAST lanes, checked only electronically by the new “SENTRI†system. The first customs stop will be a Mexican customs office in Kansas City, their new Smart Port complex, a facility being built for Mexico at a cost of $3 million to the U.S. taxpayers in Kansas City.

As incredible as this plan may seem to some readers, the first Trans-Texas Corridor segment of the NAFTA Super Highway is ready to begin construction next year. Various U.S. government agencies, dozens of state agencies, and scores of private NGOs (non-governmental organizations) have been working behind the scenes to create the NAFTA Super Highway, despite the lack of comment on the plan by President Bush. The American public is largely asleep to this key piece of the coming “North American Union†that government planners in the new trilateral region of United States, Canada and Mexico are about to drive into reality.

Just examine the following websites to get a feel for the magnitude of NAFTA Super Highway planning that has been going on without any new congressional legislation directly authorizing the construction of the planned international corridor through the center of the country.

* NASCO, the North America SuperCorridor Coalition Inc., is a “non-profit organization dedicated to developing the world’s first international, integrated and secure, multi-modal transportation system along the International Mid-Continent Trade and Transportation Corridor to improve both the trade competitiveness and quality of life in North America.†Where does that sentence say anything about the USA? Still, NASCO has received $2.5 million in earmarks from the U.S. Department of Transportation to plan the NAFTA Super Highway as a 10-lane limited-access road (five lanes in each direction) plus passenger and freight rail lines running alongside pipelines laid for oil and natural gas. One glance at the map of the NAFTA Super Highway on the front page of the NASCO website will make clear that the design is to connect Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. into one transportation system.

* Kansas City SmartPort Inc. is an “investor based organization supported by the public and private sector†to create the key hub on the NAFTA Super Highway. At the Kansas City SmartPort, the containers from the Far East can be transferred to trucks going east and west, dramatically reducing the ground transportation time dropping the containers off in Los Angeles or Long Beach involves for most of the country. A brochure on the SmartPort website describes the plan in glowing terms: “For those who live in Kansas City, the idea of receiving containers nonstop from the Far East by way of Mexico may sound unlikely, but later this month that seemingly far-fetched notion will become a reality.â€

* The U.S. government has housed within the Department of Commerce (DOC) an “SPP office†that is dedicated to organizing the many working groups laboring within the executive branches of the U.S., Mexico and Canada to create the regulatory reality for the Security and Prosperity Partnership. The SPP agreement was signed by Bush, President Vicente Fox, and then-Prime Minister Paul Martin in Waco, Tex., on March 23, 2005. According to the DOC website, a U.S.-Mexico Joint Working Committee on Transportation Planning has finalized a plan such that “(m)ethods for detecting bottlenecks on the U.S.-Mexico border will be developed and low cost/high impact projects identified in bottleneck studies will be constructed or implemented.†The report notes that new SENTRI travel lanes on the Mexican border will be constructed this year. The border at Laredo should be reduced to an electronic speed bump for the Mexican trucks containing goods from the Far East to enter the U.S. on their way to the Kansas City SmartPort.

* The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is overseeing the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC) as the first leg of the NAFTA Super Highway. A 4,000-page environmental impact statement has already been completed and public hearings are scheduled for five weeks, beginning next month, in July 2006. The billions involved will be provided by a foreign company, Cintra Concessions de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A. of Spain. As a consequence, the TTC will be privately operated, leased to the Cintra consortium to be operated as a toll-road.

The details of the NAFTA Super Highway are hidden in plan view. Still, Bush has not given speeches to bring the NAFTA Super Highway plans to the full attention of the American public. Missing in the move toward creating a North American Union is the robust public debate that preceded the decision to form the European Union. All this may be for calculated political reasons on the part of the Bush Administration.

A good reason Bush does not want to secure the border with Mexico may be that the administration is trying to create express lanes for Mexican trucks to bring containers with cheap Far East goods into the heart of the U.S., all without the involvement of any U.S. union workers on the docks or in the trucks

Luis said it himself....

They will do the jobs at a low wage and send that money back home leaving them with no money to pay thier own healthcare. This is exactly the problem. Yes, I too, will give money to family and friends. However, I have paid my taxes and put back for healthcare needs before I give to them. If I were to work for those wages, I would be the one in that emergency room seeking free healthcare.

That is precisely our point. Don't come here and accept those low wages. You are being taken advantage of by very greedy farm owner or very rich Home Builders. They take advantage of your illegal status. Come here properly and you will be able to demand higher wages and better afford to help your families back home. As it is now, coming here and working for a less than living wage you are hurting everyone elses wages. Making it hard for the rest of us to demand what we deserve if there are illegals willing to do crappy work for even crappier wages.

Yes, there are exceptions. I have a good friend that I sold my Lawncare business to. He is Hispanic. He is here legally and he pays taxes, carries insurance and charges proper rates for his services. He is good for the economy and isn't driving down the rates that other lawn care provders can charge.

I don't even want the Americans that are here to do business illegally. It is bad for us all when one is charging lower rates than the rest because he has cut corners and doing things illegally.

So you see Luis, it's not just you and mexicans. It is anyone that is here cutting corners and not working toward bringing all our wages up that we don't want to tolerate.

Thank you for your reply,

I didn't mean to sound offended, and i apologize if my post offended anyone. Yes you are right and everyone should abide by laws and come to the U.S and work legally. I understand that you as many of us pay taxes and they are used to pay for ilegal immigrants such as American citizens. I was a non speaking english immigrant when i arrived to the U.S for the first time, and i have now contributed much to my country as i can, I believe myself to be an American just as anyone else. I never knew my own country as it is why i am here now learning about my own culture since i got the first chance in my life to come here. I understand that we all pay for the benefits that all illegal immigrants recieve but i believe that all are good hearted people who in the end contribute just as much to the country as anyone else ( well most that is). I mean these guys just want a better life for themselves and their family just like anyone of us. I am here now and got married and i am waiting for my wife to become a resident so that she may enter the country legally. All of my family live in the U.S and most of my family was born there as was my son. These people do help the U.S alot. Look at El Salvador for instance, they have had troops from here in Iraq ever since the war stated and have backed up the U.S countless of times in anything they do,And other countries that call themselves friends to our country have left Iraq and the U.S just hanging there. Many of these people would like to come to the U.S at some point and i believe that they have contributed to the country with service and that they should be allowed to get their chance at bettering their life. Think of it this way, if they could live the life here that they live in the U.S why would they want to leave their own country? i do respect your opinion and see that you have a good heart. I thank you for the time you took to reply to my post as you did clear up any misconceptions i might have had.

What about the guys that came here illegally but got jobs and became good tax paying American (U.S.) citizens? I have a guy that works for me who was literally smuggled in to the U.S. underneath the bed of a pickup truck and now he is a United States citizen who made 6 figures last year and paid ALL of his taxes. He probably paid more in taxes than more than 50% of this countries natural born citizens. He is the hardest working guy I know and now he has a chance to make a great life for his wife and children. It is the American dream. There are more of these kind of people out there than you think. They just want a better life for their families just like our forefathers did and they work harder to get it than a lot of U.S. citizens ever would.

There are SOOOOO many jobs out there than U.S. citizens will not touch and they would rather go on welfare than do these jobs. Those are the people that bring this country down, the ones that keep the welfare state alive.

I am just oh so sure all of you would sit and try and survive on $150 a year and not even think of coming to the country right next to yours because it was "ileagal" sure. if they were paying day laborers $100 bucks an hour in canada and your kids were hungry, and needed clothes, you would stay here and respect canada's laws. Ah OK right. and you make sure you pay every single dime of taxes you should. and report every dime of income. . .
