Hey

My name is Joe and just finished my first year of college as a chemistry major. I want to get into this business because there isn't a lot of businesses doing it in my area. So far i have had a professionally designed logo made, designed an ad for the paper, established the business and got a tax number, and setup a business bank account. I know that i am going to use Monster industries cleaners and a nice pressure washer all from northern tool and equipment. The washer is a unit with a Honda engine, a cat pump with adjustable pressure, rated at 4000psi and 3.5gpm.

First question:
What is all included in a house cleaning was (siding, gutters, roof...) because i was planning on charging anywhere from $0.13-0.20 sq ft ,depending on the variables, for a wash, clean, and wax.

Second question:
I have heard some people talk about when they go to estimate a job, that they do a demo for the customer. So what do they do, bring their power washer with them on bids, spray, apply some chemicals, then WOW and AWE the customer? or can you do it with just a hose?

Third question:
What do you think people will think of a 19 year old without any custom company clothing or logos on his truck? I basically spent all my money with the legal and equipment stuff and don't want to spend anymore until the phones start ringing after the ad goes into the paper ($75 bucks for one week).

I am very knowledgeable about the chemicals, sales. and believe in being professional. I just wont look professional until i can start making some money.

Thanks, Joe

I am kind of in the same boat as you except i'm 35. I am currently spending all my money on looking professional because to me your image is everything. Get yourself some tees with your name and logo embroided on it, it costs peanuts. Lettering the truck also shouldn't cost all that much, I believe when I had my company back in the day it was about 200 bucks. That's my 2 cents

I just ordered a 6x12 white cargo trailer with the chrome trim. The cargo trailer acts as a rolling billboard and the chrome gives it that shine that draws attention. It's going to look awesome...hmmm I hope I can get the contracts to pay for it though. :)

thats what i want to do but im a college student...IM BROKE so i have no choice to start out small. This is my theory, i will put the ad in the paper and wait for the calls. As soon as the calls start coming I will go and give them a quote if they want and bring a photo album of previous work i did for family and friends with my sh#$$y power washer i have now. Then book the job at least 2 weeks after so i have time for people to call and give quotes to them, so i can be booked for at least a week or two before i go and buy all the chemicals, power washer, hose, laddersaver, shirts, bla bla bla. My total start up cost is around $2500 to $3000 right now after i go and buy everything. As soon as my logo is done being made i will try to post it on here.

Thanks, Guys and take a look at my other post about the chems im going to be using
