Several years ago I heard that the GOV was going to ban the current CCA pressure treated wood. I also heard some stain companies were developing a product that would prevent the leaching of the harmful chemicals from the already existing treated decks. I'm ready for selling this service. I can see myself with a protective suit and breather just like asbestos removal companies. Double the price!!! Anyone heard of these products. I deal with Sherwin Williams and they have not heard of this. I already have clients ready for the service as soon as I can find out for shure if they work. Nothing in the world to sell services like frear!! Right now the big scare is MOLD!!!

pressure treated wood was made with CCA
COPPER CHROMINUM ARSINIC
a GOOD CLEANING AND A QUALITY sealer will be just fine.
They now use a diffrent chem to replace the arsinc.
Dont sell on fear. Sell on the quality of your work.
You surely can mention how b ad mold is for your health as a selling point but mostly stress how your work will improve their outdoor quality of life, save their investment[deck's arn't cheap],and quality of air in their home.

Asbestos removal companies make big money cleaning up and removing hazardous materials. If there is a product that will prevent the harmful chemicals from leaching out of current pressure treated decks then I want to sell those services. It is my opinion that simply sealing a deck is not enough. Water seals are little more than parafin wax to repell water. Its purpose is to prevent freeze and thaw damage from water penetrating the wood in sub freezing temps. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of any products or procedures designed for this specific use. Currently I tell my customers that keeping their decks stained is the best info I have right now. When I find a product that works then I can sell that service. Your right that selling good work is your best tool. I may have come off in the post to you as wanting to scare people into paying more. I just want to stay on top of products available in this business. I try all products on my deck before I sell anything to my people.

jeff, their are a number of artical's about this subject on the net.
Sealer is the reccommended fix.
If you are useing a parrifin wax based sealer, then yes the wax burn's off[thompson's is notorius for this and concidered CRAP by 99% of professional's]
A penetrating oil based sealer is best IF you still want to see the grain of the wood. SIKKEN"S or solid stain's are best to prevent leaching but can be a real pain to remove when it come's time to refinnish the deck.
This bbs frown's on posting most brand name's of sealer's.
Their is a good supplier in your area.

The new standard for pressure treating is called ACQ.

ACQ lumber is treated with a greener blend of ammonia, copper and quaternary ammonia.

Hi APLUS< I would bet that the mix you mentioned ACQ would make one heck of a roof cleaner?
A spray on and leave type.
Quat's has been used to control alge for a long long time.
Maybe replace the ammonia with some zinc.

Ron,

There may well be some roof cleaners that have similar chemical makeups....I'm not for sure though.
