Manager / Coach? Who Me?

Here is one some of you can probably relate to:

My 7 year old son and I were at little league sign ups, he asked me "Dad do you want to be the Coach for my team"?

I explain to him that I have never coached a little league team before, he does not seem to think that previous experience is a pre-requisite, so I somewhat reluctantly volunteer to "help out".

You guessed it Now I am the Team Manager, so I ask what the Managers duties are, and I am told that it is my job to do everything or find parents willing to help out, Coach Assistant Coach, Team mom etc..
I ask what if I can not get any help/ "Then you are Manager, Coach Assistant Coach Team mom / Dad etc."

Oh well my boy sure had a BIG GRIN on his face when he heard I was the team manager, my wife thinks I am crazy.

Guess I am a little crazy heh!

Mark,

You have it in ya to be a great leader..

last year was my first crack at "running" a team .... we came in second place. You will have parents that can be so understanding and you will have those who you thought were and they are NOT .This year I have the 12 to 14 year olds last year it was 14-16 and let me tell ya that was different.
You NEED parent support .
Dont worry about anything just go there everyday with a smile no-matter what your day was like.. Smile and praise those kids even if you just lost a big account. They dont care what kind of work you do or how much $ you have ........ all they care about is playing the game and winning. And you can argue with that too that winning isnt everything but it does feel good.
My wife and I for the most part did it all >consession stand > manager > coach> doctor>...... it seems that when the kids get to driving age the parents just let 'em go ..
maybe this year will be different.
I wish ya luck ..... and I know you will make the best ........ MANAGER/COACH/DOCTOR>>>>> EVER!

go to blockbuster and rent "bad news bears"
it's a trainning tape for newbies. lol
You could buy them better team shirts then "chico's bail bonds"
Sure would'nt hurt to a little running around yourself. I could run from NJ to CA and i would still be fat.
Team stuff is fun as long as the family's are into it. Once you become the afternoon babysitter and no one shows up at practice,it get's old.
I helped out with a team for a while, you need support.

This was my first year of coaching my sons 5th grade basketball team. Had alot of fun doing it. Went 2-6 for the season. Started playing in the end of the year tournament. We are in the final four. Just beat a team that beat us by 20 during the reg season last sat to advance. Play the first place team sat. When we win that we will be in the championship. Very exicited about this weekent comming up. Our motto for the week of practice is

We Can We Will Succeed.

Kids have alot of heart.
