LACEY -- The Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program has awarded Silver Cloud Harbor Marina a $7,500 matching grant to install a wash-water recycling system at their boat-hauling location in the Forked River section of Lacey.

Silver Cloud Harbor Marina is installing an EMP Advanced Wash Water Recycling System. According to the estuary program, this system purifies water to produce clean, oil-free water to reuse for power-cleaning operations. It filters out fine solids, hydrocarbons, carbons, and heavy metals including paint toxins. The recycled water meets the EPA/USCG standards for clean water.

Seasonal boat power washing is necessary to eliminate the algae growth that adheres to the boat bottoms. Most of the wash-water filters back into the river and bay. Use of the wash-water recycling system enables the used wash-water to be cleaned and reused for additional boat washing.

Less dirty water re-entering the waterways helps to keep the Forked River and Barnegat Bay cleaner.

The Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program is a federally funded program under the federal Environmental Protection Agency and sponsored locally by Ocean County College.

The mini-grant program is designed to motivate people to participate in protecting and restoring the Barnegat Bay watershed.

Owned by David and Dawn Giombetti, Silver Cloud Harbor Marina is a full-service marina located in Forked River.
