Marketing Methods for the internet and Social Media

Just finished reading Ron’s thread titled “How many things can we do to market our pressure washing business?†and notices a complete lack of the importance of a webpage and using social media.

Could be because the thread is over 10 years old now and some advertising methods have changed over time?

As many of you are unaware, I have been in this business for around 10 years as a worker for another company. Recently I have moved and am in the works of starting up for myself in a new country.

In this day and age the internet holds an extremely important role and if your business is lacking a website or at the least a facebook page. You are missing out on a cheap effective way to reach potential customers

“98% is one eye-opening statistic for any reader, but that’s how many adults aged eighteen to twenty-four in the United States are reportedly using social media in a typical month. The study, conducted by consumer insight service Experian Simmons, estimates that roughly 129 million people — that’s 41.37% of the total US population of 311.8 million — are using social media to stay in touch with both friends and family.â€

Social Media sites are sites like Facebook, According to Nielson media research Facebook occupied 7 hours of the average user's time during the month of January.

Advertising on sites like Facebook, there is the potential to reach tens of thousands of local users that are within your businesses service area each time they login, over the course of months.

Advertising on Facebook lets you choose who can see your advertisement by the viewer’s age, location, and interests. Although there is no way to target “Home Owners†the way I attempt to target them is by taking an educated guess on their age and interests, My advertisements target users aged 25-60 with interests in things that would lead me to assume they are homeowners. After your advertisement is set up, it has the same potential of reaching your customers as would a door hanger or small ad in the junkmail. As of writing this, over the past week my advertisement has been posted 34,469 times, reaching 4,658 potential business clients 7.4 times. So in a sense I have just placed 4,658 door hangers on potential home owners doors once a day for a week.

What was my total cost of this ? FREE, or 91 cents depending on how you look at it. Facebook offers a promotion for first time advertisers and offers free vouchers for $50, $25 and if you’re lucky $100. These vouchers are 100% free at no cost or hidden charge to you. Depending on how you target your advertisements this can last you a long time or you can burn it up in the course of a couple days. Once the free vouchers run out you will get billed via paypal or a credit card so if you do not wish to continue you must keep track of your credit and cancel when it’s close to done.
So now I am reaching 4,658 people on facebook now what? Now you need to turn your door hanger into a way to get people interested in your product or service, up until now your advertisement was just to get your name or logo planted in the heads of potential customers by making them see it several times.

To draw in a group of people you need to get them to “like†your company’s page. There are many ways to go about this but to keep it easy and cheap I run a “Want to win a FREE House Wash ?†advertisement where to qualify for a chance they need to click on my pages like button. Once someone “Likes†your page it can be considered as a invite to cold call or just show up to their house to show them pictures and tell them about services you provide, From now on anytime you post anything on your fanpage everyone who has liked your page will see it as a post on their main Facebook page. If you have 150 likes from doing this, posting a set of before and after pictures on your page will automatically show up on the homepages of the 150 potential customers. Every time you type out about a promotion or new service you offer, everyone in your like list will see it.

Not bad marketing for a week only spending 91 cents out of $75 free advertising credits.

Hope some of you find this usefull,

Good stuff. Facebook advertising can be so specific that, with a little work, your can get your ad directly onto any particular page you're looking for. If you're pushing hard for a contract with a particular company, consider advertising directly to the CEO's facebook page.
