Maximum Run Time and Idle Time

Greetings,

Excellent Forum here, btw. Keep up the great work.

I have a Ridgid RD80706 Power Washer (3,300 psi, 3GPM) with a Subaru Engine and CAT pump. Is there a maximum amount of uninterrupted run-time before one should stop and let the unit rest? Having asked that, what is the 'safe' amount of idle time with water pressure before damage to pump or other components can occur?

Many thanks again.

Lyman,

I have run my unit (Landa cold water / Honda engine) for up to 4 hours with no problem. I've heard that the Subaru Robin engine you have has problems restarting after you shut it down. Do you have that problem also?

As for idle time for your pump, I don't let mine idle for more than a minute or two. I pull the trigger on my gun for a bit to keep it cool.

I hope this helps, but I'm sure Mark will be able to help you better.

Lyman, I would check the owners manual or website and see. I can tell you I have never heard of anything like a maximum run time. I have always heard Pressure Washers are like airplanes, there built to run.

Thanks. Nothing in the manual so what you are saying would be common sense. Many thanks, greatly appreciated!

Lyman,

As far as run time, I would say no longer than one tank of gas,
(I see the manufacturer rates this unit for continuous use,
it is not a bad semi commercial entry level washer)

DO NOT leave machine running in bypass for more than 2-3
minutes for optimum life expectancy.

I read that this model is equipped with the idle down feature
this is a great option that throttles engine down when unit
is in bypass.

Mark, thank you very much. I appreciate your having not only looked into the Make/Model but your other advice as well. Thanks!

Best,

Lyman

Sounds like some solid advice. And don't forget to keep cool water into that pump ever little bit if you are letting it bypass. They can get hot fast.
