This thing is going to have a 357 mag blown into it soon...
It has been at a gateway store...... first time it was b/c C-moss
which took 2.5 weeks. then when I got it back everything was wacky .So back to the store and al they did was crash it then re-load win 98. now I have A "dangerously low in resorses"
Not enough memory to start internet , and internet explorer cannont find active desktop html file.
my color is a blur even with 600x 800 true 32 bit. Maybe I can play with that a lil..

I put 3 128 memory sticks in this thing.. and there is nothing on this puter 88 % free.

Im sorry If you cant understand a word Im saying you probably need more info. but I am so tired of explaining........ OKay why did I post here then...... dunno....... maybe you have an idea.......
it was built 9/28/99 so I guess it's time ............. DUDE IM GETTING A DELL<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I'm going to turn this one over to Tony. Based upon what you are saying, I better not step in. I'm not certain the C-Moss issues were addressed, and I don't want to get into those settings. They can really make a mess of things. BACK UP all the files that are critical to you if you can. All your accounting, word, etc....
They should be uneffected by this, but if the system needs work then you will want to do this.

Do you have a RESTORE disk for the system that restores all system settings as well as reloading windows?

Beth:(

p.s. I'll email Tony for you.

This is a tough one to diagnose this way. First off, did you start having problems after you installed the memory? If so, I would remove the memory you added, and see what happens. If not, then move on to the next item.

When the system says it is low on resources, it is meaning the 640k in main, or base memory, not extended memory, which is everything above 640k. So what my take is, your system is not managing resources effectively. The question is, why? My first gut feeling is something in your cmos was altered that affects the way memory is allocated. If you know how to get into your bios (or cmos) then do so, and look for a tab that allows you to return all settings to the default state. If you are not comfortable in that area, then leave it alone, and take the machine back to Gateway, and raise some cain. I'm hoping that your system is still under warranty, in which case it is better to let them handle it.

Tell them to reset the bios back to default, and to run diags on the mainboard. THey should be able to do this for you.

Not knowing what your level of computer knowledge is, I really don't want to go into a whole lot of depth here, because you may not understand what I'm saying, and end up causing more grief than you already have.

If you want to tackle this more, then email me, and we can exchange phone numbers.

Also, I think Gateway will give you a trade-in credit towards a new machine, if you decide to go that way. I've had both Gateways and Dells in the past, and there really isn't going to be a big difference in the support you receive from either, or the quality of components they use. It is a very competitive market.

The best place to buy a pc, is from a mom and pop shop, where the people tend to be more service oriented.

Of course, for myself, I just build em' and support them myself.

And naturally I would be remiss if I didn't remind you of the fine advice Beth gave.....back up your critical data asap!

Good luck
