My Partner Is Terrible

:burn: He has 3 Jobs. My Company, His landscaping, and he's head waiter at a country club. I can't get anything done because he's too busy. I would do it on my own but I don't have a license and none of my other friends w/ licenses have any work ethic whatsoever so they can't help. I'd hire someone but we're not making any money. Why aren't we making any money...it all goes back to my partner being too busy. Sorry, end rant. I had to tell somebody :)

Sounds like you need some new friends. Getting your own license would probably go a long way to solving this problem. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the other crap.

It sounds like it is time to go to work under his license. If you know what to do, go out and do it. If you have an agreement just live up to it long enough to get your own license. Toss him and do your own thing. Make sure that YOU keep all teh customer contact info and make sure that you let them know that you are independent when the time comes, and don't let your partner know what you are doing.

I thought your post was down right funny :)

I looks as tho neither of you know what your doing, you cann't work b/c he is to busy, your friends cann't help they are not ethic whatsoever and cann't seem to understand why your not making any money.

Looks as tho you need to start you a landscaping business and learn how to be a head waiter or not depend on someone else and find new friends.

Scott thats sneaky and down right unfair to a 1/2 owner,be up front with him and tell him you want to go it on your own....and save a friend if you can.

I think he means a Drivers License. If so, no comment from me. I fight tooth and nail everyday trying to explain to customers why I charge twice what the "other" guy is charging.

Because I know what the hell I am doing and run a legitimate professional business.

Partners in Business

It seems to me a while back this guy was warned about going into a partnership with his friend, but he insisted it was a long lasting relationship. Now look at where he is. Any kind of partnership should be spelled out legally in writting so one can go on if the other changes his mind or decides to take a different route. Sorry to hear you started without both having your business ready, legally & mentally!

Not only is it his friend, it's his cousin...

My name is Ryan and I'm 15. My 18 year old cousin and I co-own a concrete cleaning company but are considering starting to go into a few other fields of pressure washing as well. We have a portable Karcher unit and a Whisper Wash surface cleaner. The UPCC stands for Under Pressure Concrete Cleaning. I'm in NE Ohio and UPCC has been around for a year now.

And there's this little nugget.

A guy down the stree from me just started a company. He is currently doing a 400' driveway with a wand. Unfortunately, this guy went crazy with advertising and now he is as well known as I am and lowballing. To add to all of this he got the idea when he heard about me (I live 5 doors down) and is just doing it to pay for a lil bit of college. They're not insured, registered, and have a 3gpm pressure washer with no attachments. Sorry...not that I'm bitter or anything :burn:

I have to agree with Larry on this one. Don't stab him in the back. Sit him down and tell him what you're thinking and work it out from there. This is your only job and only source of income. He needs to decide what he wants to do. Me and my best friend started the business I currently own together. Things just weren't working out so we came to an agreement and he's still my best friend to this day. He builds houses and I own a pressure washing service. There's a reason they call your partner a business partner and not a business friend.

I never said stab him in the back. I said to get to work, and prepare for the day when teh partnership truly fails, and whether by choice or necessity, he is forced to go out on his own.
However, I did not realize when posting this that he was only 15.

Let me clarify a bit. I was talking about my drivers license, my partner is my cousin, we're not going out of business, and for the guy who "has to explain why he charges twice as much as the other guys" I'm not a lowballer and have to do the same things. We're putting together a concrete schedule (no pun intended) this weekend. If I want him out I can make him leave because I paid for the PW, Surface Cleaner, and everything else we own. Thinks for the help on this one though

<font color=e87400>UPCC. Not trying to be funny or sarcastic here. If you don't absolutely have to have the money, like you are not trying to support your family or trying to contribute to a college fund, you should drop the business & just study your a$$ off!

Get straight A's, Go to college & get a masters degree in something that starts out a $100k a year.

Trying to run a business right now, especially with problems as you are having is only going to distract you from what's important, your studies! Get an education & spend your spare time being a kid! You'll have all the time in the world to work later.

Just my 2cents worth!

...That is about the best post I've read in a year (Cody's). Either get an MBA or some sort of specialized degree (accounting, engineering, etc), and chase as much split-tail as humanly possible. DON'T let the biz distract your from school, do it on the weekends, afternoons. Not saying not to be self-employeed, just get an MBA or acct. degree first, then see what doors open for you.
